Talk me out of this dress. Beautiful but boring.

I have a big birthday coming up and want a new 'going out' dress for a couple of meals.

I own 2 such dresses already, black wrap over and a plain dark blue one.

After hours and hours of searching what do I find? Dark blue wrap. 🙄

This is a Phase Eight, Nancie. I do love it.

I'm a 16, big of boob, like blues and greens, definitely want a midi and have a very low waist so look a strange shape with anything high waisted.

Budget up to £200.

Ideas of somewhere different that I can search?

Thanks

Have you tried Ghost?

have you priced up getting something made by a dressmaker if it's for a special occasion.

for something like that you are looking at no more than £50/60 for 3 - 4m of good quality nice fabric, approx £10- £15 for the pattern of your choosing leaving the rest for labour.

it's a simple wrap dress and wouldn't require much fitting so after an initial consultation most dressmakers would be able to put something together pretty easily from your measurements.

depends how much time you have?

I don't understand why you need talking out of it op. If you love it and think it'll suit you then surely it's the right one.

Livinginanotherworld · 04/04/2023 20:15

Have you looked at Bombshell ? They have some fab dresses, definitely not boring.

LilylilyDaisy · 04/04/2023 20:26

How about Monsoon? The Rosalie dress is a similar sort of style overall as the Phase Eight, but embellished, which might make it feel more special birthday dress.

Frenchfancy · 04/04/2023 20:27

I think it's lovely.

hexsnidgett · 04/04/2023 20:27

It's a nice dress, are you looking for something similar but a different colour? Or would you prefer something completely different?

lovemycottage · 04/04/2023 20:28

I think it's lovely, flattering, classy dress, cannot go wrong with that.

Lcb123 · 04/04/2023 20:28

I think that dress is beautiful and very flattering, why do you need talking out. Get some bright / statement shoes, bag and jewellery.

WhatFreshHeckle · 04/04/2023 20:31

I like that dress too. I wouldn't suit the frilly hem, but if you would, then go for that one.

Iyjd · 04/04/2023 20:41

It’s beautiful! If you are spending the money anyway why not get what you want, everything else will feel second best.

Banjaxx · 04/04/2023 20:51

It’s lovely op the green in it is gorgeous!

Chewbecca · 04/04/2023 21:04

I really like your original dress. How about getting some fabulous shoes to go with it?

Chewbecca · 04/04/2023 21:05

Or necklace?

DilettanteMum · 04/04/2023 21:08

Best dress ever

I’m not talking you out if it - it’s beautiful. Maybe in green?

DilettanteMum · 04/04/2023 21:08

Sorry that's like a sack with a frill.

OP your original choice is lovely and has an elegant retro feel.

MargotDeWitt · 04/04/2023 21:24

It's very nice, but not amazing. If you already have similar, why do you need another?

LilylilyDaisy · 04/04/2023 21:28

Really love the green version! Can see that with some sparkly accessories, would look gorgeous.

Magnoliainbloom · 04/04/2023 21:30

Very pretty dress!

DilettanteMum · 04/04/2023 21:39

@WeAreTheHeroes but tell me what you really think...

I have a similar body shape to the OP and find this dress extremely flattering. I get compliments from multiple people every time I wear it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

A dress make quoted me 250 quid for a wiggle dress. Id love to find out who can make a dress for less but joy so far
