Which make up counter should I head for ?

I am early fifties , overweight and clueless about makeup. Some recent photos have made me get me arse in gear to lose weight but I also need to get some simple makeup. Foundation or tinted moisturiser , blusher etc. which John Lewis counter would be best? I don’t want people to comment that I’m wearing make up, just maybe say I look well ( and hopefully younger !).

I’d go to the No 7 counter at Boots. They can colour match you foundation and recommend products and show you how to apply them.

What is you skin and eye colouring?
I have Nars foundation and recently had a sample from Laura Mercier. It glided on so silkily.

Also, if you can head to watch Tik Tok, there are endless make up videos including videos about over 50s make up. I’ve had some great tips.

Ysl foundation
Covers brilliantly and last all day .
I recommend their setting spray in the white bottle too and lipsticks .

I have recently done the same as you are about to. I tried all the brands recommended on here but found all the foundations too heavy and visible. Yuck! The women are always very helpful and positive though + it’s hard to see what the make up looks like under the store lights - don’t buy there and then!! In the end I tried boots hydraluminous (sp?) as recommended by people on here and I love it. I actually wear it everyday now, which has surprised me.

I use a mix of Clarins and Boots. Good range, good price, really helpful non pushy staff.

I found the Laura mercier tinted moisturiser very sticky and made my skin very shiny. Didn't really cover anything and was too expensive. I have yet to find a tinted moisturiser I like.

Me too. I got it a few weeks ago and hate it. Even though I was colour matched it makes me look sickly and it's so greasy and never dries.

I like Bare Minerals, its good for sensitive skin and the complexion rescue tinted moisturiser is great for older skin.

I really like the Ordinary serum foundation, gives good coverage and isn’t too heavy.

id also recommend using a primer. Makes a massive difference in how the makeup goes on and how it looks.
