Smooth legs against bed sheets

Forgive the awkward title; wasn’t sure how else to phrase it!

When I was younger, I remember that amazing feeling of shaving your legs, getting into bed and rubbing your smooth legs against the sheets.

It occurred to me recently that I’ve not felt that in ages. I shave and get into bed and it just feels normal. Pondering why!

Could I be shaving badly? Used to use shaving foam and be very careful and now pretty much just slap the razor on over soap. Is that why? Is my razor crap? Or am I just older with dry legs now and will never be dolphin smooth again? (Mid thirties)

Is it your sheets rather than your legs? I know exactly what you mean, but only get it with the summer bedlinen - from October to Easter we have brushed cotton cosy bedding. We were supposed to do the switch at the weekend but it’s still too cold!

Exfoliate before shaving. Shave with a fresh razor. And then a thick cream, or an oil afterwards.

Ameliorate scrub is great, I also love Frank's coffee scrub, if you can be bothered to clean up after.

I switched to FFS subscription for razors a few years ago and would never go back... New blade every 10-14 days.

And I picked up some Hotel Chocolat body butter recently from TK Maxx which is gorgeous.

SnuggleBuggleBoo · 03/04/2023 23:19

Am I the only one who hates that feeling?!

MamaDollyorJesus · 03/04/2023 23:31

It has to be fresh sheets - it doesn't work if it's manky week old sheets.

And like @Judystilldreamsofhorses the sheets have to be the right sheets.

I had a satin set way back in the 90's as a teen & they were fab with freshly shaved & moisturised legs except that time I used body shops olive oil body butter & woke up in the middle of the night like a freshly basted turkey with greasy sheets 😂😂

Oooh your title brought back memories!!
I vividly remember this feeling but also haven't had it for years (pushing 40)

DoctorQuack · 04/04/2023 05:05

@SnuggleBuggleBoo I hate this feeling, too.

carriedout · 04/04/2023 05:49

I wonder if it is because homes now are warmer than they used to be?

Bellisina · 04/04/2023 09:14

Could be the sheets I guess, they are just plain cotton- although nicer quality than when I was younger naturally! We change them once a week on Sunday morning, and I shave my legs on Sunday night, so you’d think I’d be all ready with my fresh sheets! But alas no. I am definitely slapdash in my shaving these days though so will try and be more thorough.

thanks @LordEmsworth - will try the ameliorite! Currently use Elizabeth Arden 8 hour oil after no bath/shower but no exfoliant to speak of. razor is just Venus.

I think it's this:

When I was younger my leg hair was more virile and grew fast and fairly thickly. So the difference between unshaved and shaved was great and, therefore, noticable.

Now I have aged, my leg hair grows more slowly and there is far less of it. So the difference is less and a shaved leg no longer feels much different to an unshaved one.

I am unsure whether to be offended or grateful for the change Grin

LordEmsworth · 04/04/2023 11:30

Honestly, scrub first turns it from "no hair" to "smooth as silk". You just have to make sure you're not over doing it, because the feeling is so addictive... Couple of times a week rather than every day!

Bellisina · 05/04/2023 22:25

I tried everything tonight- soaked my legs for ages in the bath, used a proper scrub, washed again with soap to get the scrub residue off. Used a proper shaving gel, fresh razor blade and used oil AND body cream after shaving. Am now in bed and though there is an improvement, I’m still not dolphin smooth. Not only that, but my legs are still kind of prickly! Can’t tell if it’s a rash/razor burn, my skin got irritated by the scrub or if I’m just somehow terrible at shaving now? gutted!

Gonna keep trying, but feels like my smooth days are behind me.

I only remember getting that feeling after using Immac, not with shaving. Didn't like it at all!

wantspringnow · 05/04/2023 22:34

Korean Italy towels to scrub with first after a soak in the bath. Got after a thread on here about exfoliating, bloody brilliant. And yes, your skin is like a squeaky clean dolphin afterwards Grin

MamaDollyorJesus · 16/04/2023 08:07

Had a brainwave while I was in the bath last night - I can only remember getting "the feeling" when I stayed at home with my parents.

But then I'd, bathe, shave my legs, moisturise then get straight into bed to watch tv or read, whereas now that I live alone I potter around, watch tv in the lounge etc then go to bed about 2-3 hours after my bath.

So last night I climbed into bed straight after the bath & while it wasn't the exact feeling it was bloody close.

Wishona · 16/04/2023 08:10

I still get this whether shaved or waxed.
I wash with bar soap.
I don’t use fabric conditioner.

Bellisina · 16/04/2023 13:20

I went whole hog the other day. Used a salty scrub, then washed the scrub off with soap and an exfoliating sponge. I didn’t have any shaving gel, but I put on some foam burst and left it to soak, then shaved with a fresh blade. Post bath, I used my normal body oil with a body cream on top. Got into bed about 20 mins later and it was better, but still not quite there. Not only that, but my legs felt kinda spiky, like they hadn’t even been shaved! Gutting. I honestly think my legs are never gonna feel this again!

Gonna have another try with actual shave gel in the summer, in case the cold was giving me goosebumps and making my legs feel bumpy!

Oh no don't use shaving foam that makes my legs all scaly. I use hair conditioner to shave with. Much smoother and less drying.

Also try a Korean Italy cloth to exfoliate. Leaves my body much smoother than any scrub.

I’ve never tried one of these. I use a loofah, face cloth or exfoliating gloves. Agree manual exfoliation is better than any scrubs.

How different are they?
