I’ve had enough of dying my hair and I’m in mid sixties stopped dying it at the start of Jan so really not that long, it does look a mess with the grey coming through, but apart from trying not to be impatient I’m loving the new colour, Anyone else tried this recently or has done this. Obviously I’m not the only one! 🤣interested in knowing if people are pleased with how their hair has turned out, I realise it’s a big change.

I said that. I said I would be buried having dyed my hair!

I changed at about 55 years old when the upkeep got beyond a joke, more and more, and my hair being porous, even after a wonderful expensive full head colour and highlights, within no time it had gone a vile colour in the sun. Enough was enough!

BTW anyone wear white or do they find cream looks better

Much much prefer white. And I wear jewel colours.

Cream looks odd on me, I am similar colouring to you

HappyMe6 · 05/04/2023 18:44

Vicliz24 good on you for persevering. I won’t give up once I make me mind up about anything I just have to see it through! I wear hats when I go out or headbands I’ve not had any negetive comments, if anyone has commented it’s been positive I’m mainly told oh you are brave, or it’s really coming through a lot now, one person did say aren’t you worried you might look older and I laughed and said not at all. I would rather be grey and natural than keep putting dark dye on my hair as that can be very aging, but each to their own of course

FedUpWithEveryThing123 I used to say the same thing till I got to 65 and thought oh I can’t do this dying thing anymore although it was home boxed colour my hair was getting porous and I was doing the roots every month, so here I am I never thought this would be me and I’m enjoying the colour coming through,

That silver lining IG lady looks good. But she looks much older than 52 which reinforces my fears that it’d put a decade on me.

My sister has embraced the grey. She’s 55. One of my son’s friends assumed she was my aunt 😆

HappyMe6 · 05/04/2023 18:52

Roussette oh dear I’ve got a few more ivory in my wardrobe than white 🤣🤣

@soupmaker you've given me hope! I've been grey for a few years but have always kept my hair short and sleek - which did look good TBF. However menopause has left me with a permanent boiling hot sweaty head meaning that sleek straight cuts stopped working as my hair would go wavy and frizzy. I'm trying to transition to an air dryed Italian bob as my hair has a natural wave but worry that I just look mad a lot of the time! However your hair looks beautiful and just how I want mine so I will keep trying:-)

FedUpWithEverything123 · 05/04/2023 19:29

HappyMe6 youre right i may well be the same! Currently doing roots every 2weeks, hate it 😫😫😫 So glad youre enjoying the colour!!

soupmaker · 05/04/2023 19:43

@Puppylucky I'm early 50s and fully perimenopausal so feel your pain. I put hair oil in when my hair is wet which definitely helps.

Cocolapew · 05/04/2023 20:41

Thanks for the compliments.
I'm another who was able to wear black again once I went grey, I prefer to wear dark colours, I suit navy the most I think.
If I do wear a bright colour I always get told I suit it, but it isn't really to my taste.

neveradullmoment99 · 05/04/2023 22:18

Started the journey pre-lockdown.
Now I'm completely grey and it's about shoulder length.
It was a long journey and I was glad that part of the journey was during lockdown. I had the demarcation line. To begin with, I hid it for ages using the power stuff you get to cover roots. When it was too big a mark, my clever hairdresser layered my hair cleverly to blend it more.
I'm not completely there.
I'm.glad I don't dye my hair anymore. I like the colour I have. I will.never go back.
I do feel invisible though! There is no doubt about it. I wasn't before.

neveradullmoment99 · 05/04/2023 22:19

I'm completely there now, that should have read.

Exactly the same as Greydoesntsuitme.

I grew my dyed hair out over two years and it honestly made me look ill. I’ve since gone back to a dark ash blonde or very light brown to mimic original mouse colour and it suits me so much better. I’m careful not to use any dye that is described as “gold” though as that leaves a red residue.

I use a lighter shade in summer and go back to original shade in winter. I hate using the chemicals but I dye it as infrequently as possible and I find that a good regular cut goes a long to blending in any exposed roots.

Roussette · 05/04/2023 22:36

There's some beautiful hair on here!

Divisionoflabour89 · 05/04/2023 22:39

Should have added I have hazel green eyes and a very pale skin but not a rose or alabaster complexion sadly, it has more of a yellowish undertone (always the second choice in the foundation range) and grey hair looks awful against it.

I was quite surprised because I always thought nature knows best ifyswim!

Yes lovely photos!

IAcceptCookies · 05/04/2023 23:10

Wow, you all look gorgeous! I'm very inspired to embrace the grey now!

Winsypider · 05/04/2023 23:35

I grew mine out during lockdown. I like it and will never go back to dying but it does require more effort. I poof it up with heated rollers otherwise I feel drab.

I'm still learning what colours and make up now suit me. Quite a learning curve e.

mdinbc · 05/04/2023 23:38

I went to my natural colour over lock-down. I knew it would be an adventure since I had been colouring since I was 23, and I was 59 in 2020.

I keep my hair relatively short (think Princess Di in the 90's), so the grow out process wasn't too long., but it still took upwards of 9 months to totally get all the colour out. My hairdresser gave me some ash blonde streaks into my fading brown colour to ease the transition.

I get a lot of compliments on my colour now, which is a cool grey, wavy but not curly, and I am very happy not to be a slave to getting it done all the time.

Littlesprouts · 06/04/2023 00:11

I stopped colouring my hair about five years ago and had rarely felt good about my hair before that anyway so am past caring what others think.

I was in London at the weekend, mostly spending time at museums and playgrounds and noticed a lot more women in their 30s and 40s growing out the greys than I've ever have before. It looked perfectly normal and really suited a lot of women I saw. There doesn't need to be such a stigma around it I don't think.

Yes so true

I get offered seats more on the underground Smile

Sometimes I look at it and think I'd love dyed hair again then remember the roots after 3 weeks and the stress of dealing with this constantly plus the itchy head

HappyMe6 · 06/04/2023 14:09

I love to see the photos of the beautiful colours you now are with the grey hair so many different versions of grey, I think it’s great at the moment I have no clue what my colour will be as since it’s next to very dark brown I don’t think you can tell yet
