Hi , does anyone use Charlotte Tilbury ? My dd is 17 and has asked for the duo Contouring set for her birthday , I can’t for the life of me justify the hefty £54 for the two tubes
I visited one of the counters today the assistant couldn’t have been more unhelpful and said they don’t have samples but handed me a sticky tester instead

I’ve read bad reviews of customers saying after one use the tube is nearly empty

any thoughts please if you use the product , after testing it myself today I don’t understand the price label

I bought an Illuminating cream blush in one of those squeezy tubes. Felt as if it was half full. Not a great product either. I think CT is built on great marketing and hype. There are better brands.

misspigg87 · 27/03/2023 17:21

Most definately and so expensive but my dd can’t see that , it pains me to spend that sort of money , I use Rommel and Maybelline myself my dd likes expensive, apparently tik tok promote it as being brilliant . The tester I tried today in the contouring tube was horrible and sticky

There are lots of dupes for this. It would pain me to buy it as well.

Could you buy her something else abs suggest she saves up for the Charlotte Tilbury one with wages/pocket money?

Hotvimto3 · 27/03/2023 17:27

The amount of product sold is less than 1/3 of the size of the packaging.
I have lots of her products but the only one i would repurchase is the bronzer.
Revolution do greats dupes of what she wants. For that price she will get brushes, skincare and fragrance from there too.

If you would normally spend £50 plus on a birthday present then just get your DD the Charlotte Tilbury set.
It's what she has asked for.

I hated being asked what I wanted for my birthday & then being given an alternative that although cost the same or even more money it was chosen because that parent thought their choice was better than mine.

However if money is tight then explain to DD that you can't get her the CT set but would she like money as a present to put towards it or have an alternative contour set.

Personally speaking although there are better & cheaper products than the CT contour set out there, if that's what my DD wanted & I usually spent that amount of money on her & could definitely afford it then I'd get it. To do otherwise is a bit mean & petty imo.

Purplecatshopaholic · 27/03/2023 17:42

Oh come on, it’s her birthday. If you would normally spend that, then get her what she wants.

misspigg87 · 27/03/2023 17:49

Your both so right 😂if I was my dd’s age I’d be gutted if I didn’t get what I’d asked for
my budget can buy it but she won’t get much else 🙈

Thankyou all for your thoughts

My 17yr at old dd is lucky because I brought it for myself and didn’t like it so she ended up with it and she loves it.
mum sure it looks better on her as well because she has the lovely skin of youth that doesn’t actually need make up so it enhances her skin whereas on my 46yr old skin it settled in every poor and fine line.

finished31 · 27/03/2023 17:57

Go onto the site and get 15% off order if you decide to buy it.

Comii9 · 27/03/2023 18:00

Just buy it OP. Maybe suggest she watches YouTube hauls on it to make sure it's good.

I remember getting a ton of MAC make up for my 16th. She had to learn... and it's her birthday.

misshappy123 · 27/03/2023 18:01

If you work in education (or know someone that does) the Discounts for Teachers website has 20% off Charlotte Tilbury if you order from the website, they also include little samples (2 I think) that your daughter might like! You can also often get discount on CT on some of the beauty sites (look fantastic, Cult Beauty, Sephora) with your first order which is always worth a look 😊

Schmutter · 27/03/2023 18:01

Much as I love expensive make-up, Charlotte Tilbury is not something I spend money on unless for others.

I have some and I hate it all.

My nieces and his daughter asked for it for Christmas, so I bought what they wanted. But they like it for the name only.

Viviennemary · 27/03/2023 18:02

I would just get what she has asked for. After reading a few threads on MN a while ago I got the lipstick and then the cheek to chic blusher. I was very pleased with them.

Ploppppppppp · 27/03/2023 18:02

Look on vinted OP- there are loads of brand new CT stuff for sale- you might find it a bit cheaper

LovelyBranches · 27/03/2023 18:04

I like the pillow talk lipstick but I haven’t used anything else and it does seem really overpriced.

That said, if you can afford it, suck it up. It’s her birthday and there are some brands which have an unjustified kudos, for teens this is CT.

Nap1983 · 27/03/2023 18:06

Against the grain here… I really like her stuff. Mostly all my make up is CT. I don’t find it anymore expensive than other similar brands. My DD loves it and it’s one of the only brands she finds suit her skin tone (pale and red head)

Martinisarebetterdirty · 27/03/2023 18:08

Haven’t tried that product but love the foundation and eye pencils. I find it a good colour match for me.

fruitbrewhaha · 27/03/2023 18:14

No sod that. My dd is 13 and bangs on about CT. It’s clearly being pushed on social media, at great expense which is why the product is so expensive. Show her the value of hard earned money.

Doawahf · 27/03/2023 20:23

@misspigg87 you sound like a great Mum & I'm sure (well hopefully) your DD won't moan about lack of other presents.
When DD1 requested just one expensive birthday present (which I could afford & had budgeted for) I explained that would be all she was getting, though I did buy her big Toblerone (her favourite chocolate) as an extra surprise present.

I agree that birthday/Christmas presents isn't the time to be making a point just because you can looking at you ex-in-laws!
