There isn't a department store left within 30 miles.

Do I have to go to Boots?

I'm nervous of buying online and, although don't buy make up very often I do like it to be a bit of an occasion.

John Lewis or Boots are your best bet for makeup counters. Selfridge's as well if you live near one. Or if you live near a big city there tends to be shop for specific brands, e.g. mac

Boots, John Lewis, Superdrug, marks and Spencer’s. We have a Next home that also has a make up department.
If you know what you want then online is fine.
If you don’t and you’re looking for something new then a proper trip to the nearest big store would be a ‘bit of an occasion’ wouldn’t it??

My nearest Tesco superstore has a make up consultant and a large make up department. It was an 'occasion' because she did my face and it looked fab.

Boots is also good they seem to know their products and help choose the right shades.

Larger Boots are a bit like department store beauty halls, with many of the same brands, consultants etc.

Sephora has opened its first U.K. store in Westfield White City. They should have an online website as well, but I hate shopping for makeup online.

One of the larger Boots or a John Lewis would be my easiest option, but would like to get to the Sephora one day

SpaceNK had a good selection of brands and the staff are normally well trained and know their products

Boots

Some larger pharmacies can have good cosmetics sections.

fruitstick · 27/03/2023 20:33

Thank you.

SpaceNK and a large Boots is in the next town. Will give them a try.

@fruitstick John Lewis is probably your best bet though I know they’re also few and far between!

ImAvingOops · 28/03/2023 08:08

If you know what you want, John Lewis delivers to Waitrose, which I find handy. Big branches of Boots are still lovely but little branches in smaller towns can be shocking - ours closes for 2 hours every lunchtime, when people with jobs might reasonably expect to go shopping and the displays have missing items, don't look clean. And the website is appalling.
I really miss proper department stores.
