Jeans: what and where from?

I am 45 so probably should have moved on a lot sooner, but my ancient Topshop jeans (Hayden? possibly but label now unreadable) have fallen apart. I’ve got a pair of Cos mom jeans too that are ok but also starting to fray.

So where do I get non-expensive decent jeans in a vaguely fashionable style now Topshop’s gone and I can’t dash in and out to get an identical replacement pair?

5’6”, 10-12ish on the bottom half - slim(ish) high waist, plenty of hips and fat old thighs that like to rub holes in denim.

At the Topshop price range, Zara do the best jeans, IMO.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 25/03/2023 14:40

I used to wear Top shop Jamie but can never find petite length now
I'm 58 now but I've found decent quality replacements at the same price... at Hollister!
They do a multitude of styles

MissKittyFantastico84 · 25/03/2023 14:46

I just bought a pair of Zara's balloon leg jeans and I like them a lot! Basically copies of the £120 Levis version...

I know they aren't cheap, but for an item of clothing you will wear to death, I love Whistles Barrel Leg jeans, which are £95.

I am also chunky of thigh but I find them so comfy - and the style always looks a bit more stylish, to my mind. High waist, loose round the leg but tapered at the bottom. Smile

Muji or Massimo Dutti

Randomuser9876 · 25/03/2023 15:01

I am a similar shape to you though 5.8 and 12-14.

I just got some fab jeans from Primark, the vintage slim straight ones. Both flattering and comfortable and £16!

I also like m&s jeans. The mom ones fit me well.

But yeah miss topshop baxters!!

Jeansandbeans · 25/03/2023 15:03

Check out charity shops for your Topshop jeans or see if ASOS who now have Topshop have them.

Primark jeans are worth a look as is John Lewis’ Anyday range.

cannaethink · 25/03/2023 15:23

I like Mango mom jeans, the no stretch ones. Zara too. I got a new pair of the whistles barrel leg jeans on Vinted, I really like them but find they go baggy quickly.

FrillyGoatFluff · 25/03/2023 16:25

I bought some next jeans, and was v excited to find they do half sizes (13, 15, 17 etc) which is a game changer. Im currently a 15, so this is a bloody revelation!

Lots of shapes, cuts and colours, and they've been washing and wearing well.

Sprig1 · 25/03/2023 16:34

I find Sainsbury's jeans excellent for my slimmer waist/fatter thighs.

cloudyskye · 25/03/2023 16:37

TK Maxx can be good for trying lots of different brands and shapes in the same shop

pettysquabbles · 25/03/2023 16:37

I'm a Primark fan for jeans. They have a range of styles and the extra stetchy ones are so comfortable.....and they are cheap too.

SgtCawood · 25/03/2023 20:49

Right, lots of options here - thank you! Hadn’t thought of Whistles for jeans but will have a look, along with the hellhole jumble sale that’s our nearest Zara

Just back from M&S and they had a huge range of variety in various leg lengths.

I already had an arm full of stuff (they finally seem to have got their act together), so resisted the urge to go for the sienna.

MrsWidgerysLodger · 25/03/2023 20:59

Love M&S jeans, particularly the Sienna. Watch the leg length though as they're ridiculously long. I'm a standard everywhere else but a short in M&S jeans

SorrelForbes · 25/03/2023 21:03

Mango Claudia jeans are great.

IlonaRN · 25/03/2023 21:06

M&S Eva boot cut for me!

Miajk · 25/03/2023 21:14

M&S, especially M&S outlet if there's one near you.

I've not paid more than £10-20 for any clothing since I've started shopping there, all the jeans I've bought were fashionable and really good quality.

hopsalong · 25/03/2023 22:19

Do you have a T K Maxx near you? They have a lot of different types of denim. I have a few pairs of Rag & Bone jeans from TKM, also various no-name brands, one great pair of men's Levi's. You might try a 27/28 waist and a lot of different styles, and see what you like.

Fluffawuffla · 25/03/2023 23:49

Look on Vinted or depop for topshop jeans second hand

I tried those barrel legged jeans from Whistles a while ago. They looked great when standing, but as soon as I sat down there was loads of loose fabric around my waist which was extremely unflattering! They had to go back!

I really don't know how people pull off high waisted jeans. I haven't yet found a pair that look ok when sitting.

pamplemoussee · 26/03/2023 19:19

I love fat face jeans they're so soft and comfortable I can't go back to any others - really reasonable prices if you can get them in the sale

Flockameanie · 26/03/2023 20:23

M&S - I like their mom ones and the boyfriend and wide leg. Frustratingly inconsistent sizing though across different colourways - so I tend to order loads online to try.

tomfromloveislandsbeard · 26/03/2023 20:46

H and M! Surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet. They do proper thick denim jeans in all sorts of shapes, I have recently bought some wide leg pale blue denim and some mom jeans in ecru paper bag waist style and both wear and wash fabulously for under £30 a pair.

yoshiblue · 26/03/2023 23:03

Agree re M&S both mom jeans and Ivy skinny!!!

Also tu are good for cheap pairs for WFH.

Wiennetta · 27/03/2023 11:06

I have quite a difference between my waist and hip measurements so it’s difficult to find jeans that fit on both.

Have a look at ‘curvy’ ranges - Abercrombie do them, and ASOS. They’re designed for more of a pear shape.
