Aibu to throw out most of my 3 (smallish) drawers of make up?

Has anyone done this? Had tonnes and then gone minimalist?

I've thrown out plenty of crappy old make up before but I'm thinking just the minimum this time.

How much do I need? How many lipsticks etc?

I've just had my colours done at House of Colour and now have purchased 2 lipsticks that actually suit me.

I just think it's ridiculous when I often can't see the stuff that I need actually works but I'm always attracted to the shiny colours and shiny promises. 😬

Yep, I used to have loads. I mean , drawers full.

I got rid of virtually everything and pared it down to foundation, concealer, powder, cream bronzer and blush. Eyebrow pencil, couple of cream eyeshadows, mascara and liosticks.

I have another make up bag with all the odds and sods I don't always use but might from time to time like primers, slightly fancier eyeshadows and lipsticks etc

I realised that I didn't use most of it, so I gave a lot of it to a make up loving teenager and kept the stuff I used every day. I basically do the same face most days, I've no need for lilac sparkly eyeliners any more and it feels really liberating to just have the products I need and no more.

That doesn't mean I only have one liostick, but I got rid of all the ones I was hanging onto 'just because' even though they didn't suit me. All the bad mistakes, the things with weird textures and the stuff that just didnt work.

I make more repeat purchases now but of the same products.

Great that sounds encouraging! Also easier than going through my overstuffed wardrobe

I did!
I now have foundation, concealer, blusher, mascara, eyeliner, 4 lipsticks and two small eyeshadow palletes (one nide for everyday and one with some more evening colours) Can't say I've missed the tonnes of extras I got rid of.

Oh and I have a primer too.

I think I might book a trip to the dump to provide me with motivation! Smile

Boots had a makeup recycling box a while ago (could still be there, so it's worth a look!) so I went through all of my old makeup and only kept the stuff I actually used. Decluttering is great :)

I want to do this. So many lipsticks and I never wear them. I always look like I’m in drag. I only wear eyeliner, mascara and a tinted moisturiser. Eyeshadow if I’m going to an event. God knows why I have so much other crap - it’s probably years if not a decade old!!

Ah! Good information.

My large Sainsbury’s does too and there’s also the John Lewis ‘Beautycycle’ scheme where you get £5 off a £20 purchase if you bring in 5 makeup containers. Neither will take glass though.

Thanks @ghislaine
