Morning wise stylish people!
I am attending Buckingham Palace at their first Garden Party of the year early May. What do I wear?!?!

-I’m 45.
-currently in a loose 18 (should be loose 16 by then though).
-Brown hair subtle low lights.
-mid Caucasian skin tone (tan easily).
-needs to be midi length (hate my knees).
-shoulders covered but could be sleeves or small jacket?
-No Red (so I don’t twin with the person I’m taking) but I don’t mind colour/ pattern at all.
-will need hat/fascinator/flat or wedge heels so I don’t sink whilst eating a cucumber sandwich?

Anyone been and know the correct attire etiquette?

Do I dress like a guest at a wedding, that sort of thing?
any help is super appreciated. 🙂

Following as I am also going as DHs guest and have no idea what to wear! The photos online look very wedding guest or what you wear to a christening. Hats are encouraged I believe.

I wore a smart dress and a jacket, you do spend time on lawns so very high heels are out

Mincepieeyes22 · 22/03/2023 07:36

Hi, I went one year in May and I wore a smart dress and fascinator which I then wore to a wedding so yes it has the vibes of wedding / christening /ladies day at Ascot (not that I've been to Ascot).

Agree stiletto type heels won't work as you're on grass the whole time

Yes, like people would wear to a formal wedding.

100% to no thin heels as it is all on the lawn and you WILL sink / get stuck.
Wedges or flats.

Dress and jacket, with hat, were the norm when I went.

Enjoy ! It is a wonderful experience Smile

Look at Jigsaw

You can get stoppers to put on narrow heels but I'd recommend a wedge

I'd suggest a jacket , dress & hat or hat band

IMO fascinators are outdated

Have a look on Jigsaw , I am a similar size and XL / 16 tends to fit well

Thank you all so much. I don’t want to over think it but also don’t want to get it so wrong that I stick out like a sore thumb!
I was thinking wedding type outfit and agree maybe a hat or hair piece rather than fascinator. Thanks all! ☺️

I went last year.... I wore a Ted baker maxi dress, cropped blue blazer and fascinator. It's very much as you would for a wedding I'd say.... Not all the women wore hat/fascinator but majority did. Actually thinking about it, was mainly the younger ones that didn't.

Here's a random pic I took.... So you can see.
