Botox for glabella gets worse before it gets better?

I had Botox yesterday for my ‘1’ line. I did my research and went with a well regarded GP.

She said it would take three days to kick in, but today I have to say the 1 line is looking more pronounced than ever!

Is this normal?!

She did say that my muscles there are quite strong so she injected a bit more than she usually would. I have a review in two weeks.

3 days? It takes 2 weeks to have full effect.

did you stay upright for 3 hours post injections?

BotoxQn · 21/03/2023 13:02

Yes, sorry she said it will get to its final result in two weeks but I’ll start to see the difference from three days.

Yes, I had it in the morning so stayed upright until evening!

Usually takes 5-7 days for me to see an impact.

Around 3 days to start working sounds about right for me and I just get a very small dose. By 6-7 days I can pretty much see the final result.

I've never had lines looking more pronounced after Botox....is it possible that you're just studying it more while waiting for the Botox to kick in and your mind is playing trucks on you?

Well, I have to say that there’s no effect at all and if anything I truly feel the static line has become more pronounced. I’ve looked at so many MN threads and essentially by day 5 you really do/should start to see a difference. Looks like I will be one of those people for whom Botox doesn’t work, how disappointing!

Oh that is unusual! Do you have a follow up appointment? Maybe you might need a higher dose?

I'm very sensitive to Botox so I get a tiny dose, 4 units in my forehead. The odd time I've had to see a different doctor and they've been very reluctant to give such a small dose because they think I'll get no effect from it but it's actually a lot for me. Perhaps you're the opposite? I can understand if your reluctant to try more when you think this dose emphasised the line though.

It might be because it's static now rather than moving with your expressions. Do you have movement in your forehead at all?
It can't have actually made it worse, that just seems physically impossible - it doesn't freeze your face it stops you being able to move the muscle, which is what causes the line in the first place. Must be just that you can't move in order to smooth it out dynamically?
The two weeks and onwards is because your skin will have a chance to regenerate and smooth out the line. Use a good retinol to help it on its way.

Give it two weeks. If then you need a top up, it should be complimentary. I've been having it for years and never had any issues.

LancashireSquirrel · 25/03/2023 21:27

It really did take the full 14 days for me.

Grumpi · 25/03/2023 21:29

You might just need a bit more time or a tiny bit more Botox? I wouldn’t start panicking yet, I have one side of my forehead with really strong muscles and I always need a little extra tweak at my 2 week review.

There’s nothing to say it won’t work for you, for your first time ever it’s totally normal to need a little tweak to get it right!

BotoxQn · 31/03/2023 15:21

Well, day 12 and I can report it has had absolutely zero effect! My before and after photos of my ‘1’ line are identical!

I am going back on Wednesday for a top up but not holding out much hope. Gutted!

To clarify, I can frown just as much as before. It’s not just the static line that hasn’t changed but my movement is unchanged too.

Definitely get a top up. I think sometimes to begin with they give you a bit less because it's always better to add more than to have you hate it because your forehead is too frozen.
