stylish, comfy, waterproof trainers

I'm going on a trip soon where I will be travelling hand luggage only and only want to take 1 pair of shoes. The shoes need to suitable for the following:

  1. walking round a city
  2. to wear day and night (not posh restaurants but will be going out to eat a couple of times)
  3. hiking (not hardcore) in a forest
  4. spring like temperatures
  5. waterproof as it's likely to be raining a lot during the trip

My usual style would be adidas gazelle trainers but suede isn't going to do well in a damp, possibly muddy forest.

Budget of under £50 but could pay a bit more if I really love the shoes. I'm a size 5 so can often get kids size shoes which keeps the cost down a bit!
Any suggestions please?

No replies! That's a first. Perhaps this shoe does not exist. Might need to reluctantly pack more than one pair of shoes.

Trouble is you won't get anything waterproof and stylish for under £50. Sports Direct is your best bet, I've just bought some Nike Gore Tex trail runners but they were £100+

Place marking as I need waterproof trainers too. Sick of having wet toes.

Don't get waterproof trainers (they don't really work and tend to keep rain IN rather than out). Get waterproof socks instead, or quick-drying socks, like DryMax.

I have ASICS waterproof trainers which really do work. Although wouldn’t call them stylish! Or £50 I’m afraid.

Didn't know waterproof socks existed. Great idea. So maybe I could go for some plain black leather Nike's or Reebok classics which at least I could wipe clean if they get muddy.

Lots of standard trainer styles now do waterproof Goretex versions - try Vans or Nike Air Force Ones, but not under £50…

brainfoggg · 29/03/2023 21:18

So goretex is the material to go for rather than leather? Will have a search

Get waterproof socks like Sealskinz and then you won't need the trainers to be waterproof, and that'll widen your choice a lot

Converse do a waterproof pair of high tops but more than £50

are you wearing the shoes on the plane as well?

love the New Balance ones!

NatashaDancing · 29/03/2023 21:47

Does it have to be trainers?

Despite being leather and tweed these tick all your boxes. They're amazingly comfortable and are very lightweight.

I've stomped through forests in them, clambered up to Fingal's cave in the rain, generally spent lots of time in the rain wearing them, in the countryside and town without getting wet feet. And they're smart enough to wear to restaurants.

They're over your budget by quite a bit but if you come across them in a sale, they really do meet everything on your list.
