I have a ball coming up very soon which I am working at but need to wear a nice dress. I don't want to spend loads but if I will wear it again then willing to...

Me/what I think I'd like

Hourglass leaning pear - strong straight shoulders, small waist
Average to small bust
Warm skin tone
Brown hair

I think I'd like a plunge but not too low, would also consider wrap, bandeau, one shoulder, halter. Midi to maxi length as it is a ball. I get hot in synthetic so sweat marks are a concern.

Colour wise - the theme leads towards green or red. I suit bright colours and look drab in muted...kerry green, aquamarine, poppy red, turquoises, warm blue, coral. I like floral, lace, plain if the fit is perfect.

I think I need some shoes too.

What is your budget?

I think lace may not be as versatile as I thought. Lovely but I'd only ever wear it to a ball or wedding, which aren't that often. Unless I am being a bit unimaginative. It is a lovely colour.

Oh no just found out dress code is cocktail dress. That is knee length and above. Gonna need something from JL or Next as can get quick delivery. Argh. I bought one at the weekend but it is not right.

Did you buy the Lipsy Bardot maxi dress? If you did, a good seamstress/alterations place should be able to adjust the length to knee length if you like the dress.

I found one!

From Yumi, not sure how I came across them, I think I was browsing New Look and saw some and that inspired me to look at their website. Arrived today. Perfect colour. I'd like to alter the sleeve so they are more of a cap flutter sleeve, but if I am too scared I think it will still work. Goes with my existing navy suede block heel sandals. And only £40!
