HELP! What were these boots called? Popular in the 80's/90's

It's driving me crazy that I can't remember! My Mum had a pair. Everyone seemed to have a pair, lol.

They were white and looked like trainers, but they had an ankle on them, so they came up higher than a trainer. They were always white.

The Reeboks pictured. Also known as Step Shoes.

Ethelfromnumber73 · 14/03/2023 12:09

Mine were LA Gear brand

Shufflebumnessie · 14/03/2023 12:10

It sounds like they were Basketball Boots. I lived in mine in the 80's & early 90's. They cam in all different colours, not just white. I had a gorgeous pale turquoise and lilac pair from Dash (if you remember that brand). Sadly they fell apart and my feet grew, or I'd probably still be wearing them today!

FiFiWrites · 14/03/2023 12:13

Basketball boots but you're getting mixed up because you also loved tucker boots?

Iwasntgettingasandwich · 14/03/2023 12:16

Reebok ones sprang to mind straight away. Or as PPs have said, there were other brands like LA Gear. Everyone and their mum had them in the late 80s, early 90s, literally!

I thought the op meant ones with a hidden heel to make you look taller? Not sure on those but did see a young girl wearing them at the weekend.

Tukka (80s) Chukka (90s, but more Timberlands).
They're the silliest names I can think of. I don't know of a name for those ones pictured - I just know that everyone's mum wore them. The OG 'mum boots'.

BaroldBalonz · 14/03/2023 12:41

I thought boxer boots too - although the ones I had were far more flimsy and simple than the ones pictured. Thin flexible soles, thin leather, no logo's just a lot of laces!

mistermagpie · 14/03/2023 12:42

My first thought was either basketball or baseball boots. Like converse high tops but more 'trainery' and less 'canvassy'

uncertainalice · 14/03/2023 12:47

I used to have some white Travel Fox trainers with yellow, green and red bits, are those what you mean?!

ihatebingbunny · 14/03/2023 12:52

I can't find any photographic evidence of the boots that I mean, am starting to doubt that they were called boxer boots. They definitely existed, loads of us wore them to school mid eighties. Mine were suede and freezing cold in winter as there was almost nothing between my feet and the snow.

GetDownkeith · 14/03/2023 13:26

When I was ypung in the 80's ans 90's we didn't call them.high tops we literally called them trainer boots so it's likely they were named something then they aren't now.

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 14/03/2023 13:31

City boots? Just a pretentious name for a high top aimed at people walking to walk for exercise

LadyGAgain · 14/03/2023 13:32

Pashley boots?
