Son’s Phd graduation

My son has his PhD graduation ceremony soon at the Albert Hall and I need help with finding something to wear. I am in my 60’s, 5’2” and a size 16. I retired a couple of years ago and live in jeans as I spend my time walking the dogs and gardening. Also, I also have a dodgy hip so usually wear trainers but I can wear shoes but only pretty flat ones. I don’t want to spend a fortune as I’ll probably never wear the outfit again. Any advice please?

You could hire something for the occasion?

How about a trouser suit? Look online at places like Curvissa, Yours or Roman which are not too expensive. Alternatively buy a new pair of black jeans and wear them with a jacket.

If you live in jeans then get jeans - agree with PP that a pair of new flattering black jeans will be just the ticket. Wear with black shoes or boots and a coordinating top and jacket. As long as you look reasonably tidy you won’t stand out. Most people dress for graduation as if they were going out somewhere nice for lunch.

@ShandaLear not sure about that. At his master’s graduation people looked like they were off to a wedding or the races.

@BHRK Thanks, I like the green one and hadn’t thought of looking on Oliver Bonas.

I have the green and dress it up or down. To dress up I wear with big earrings and suede boots. I find the sleeves quite voluminous so sometimes tuck them under at the wrist. It’s a very comfortable dress and can definitely be worn again for things like pub lunches
