Sustainable shampoo bar recommendations

Does anyone have any recommendations for a decent sustainable shampoo bar? I've tried a few and just can't get on with them and trying to gradually add more sustainable products to my routine (already a huge fan of Wild deodorants!) xx

My favourite is Ethique but it's a bit pricey so I often get Grum instead. Grum foams more than Ethique but I don't need to use conditioner with Ethique. I've not yet found a solid conditioner that I like.

Has anyone tried the Aussie one? Any good?

WhereAreWeNow · 12/03/2023 19:55

I'm getting on well with the Faith in Nature one

I gave up, I found it impossible with the dc. If I found a good but more expensive one then the dc managed to dissolve it in to a pile of goo or else dd especially struggled and would end up with bits of shampoo not rinsed out of her hair.

Anyway. We now use Miniml which is uk based, sustainable, and refillable. A couple of local ish eco/low waste shops stock it here not also you can buy massive 5l/10l tubs and refill your bottles for the shower at home. Miniml take back the big containers, wash and reuse as they operate a closed loop recycling system.

I am a fan of Ethique as well. I do use the conditioner bar too. You can get it on offer now and then in Holland and Barratt.

I love kinkind - I tried a few and this one is definitely the best for my hair. Will try and find a link.

Retrievemysanity · 12/03/2023 20:11

Got one from bomb cosmetics that’s been good.

ElvenDreamer · 12/03/2023 20:27

Another vote for kinkind , and believe me I tried quite a few before settling!

kezzalouise · 12/03/2023 20:33

Amazing - thank you for all the suggestions! Can't wait to try :)

I have one from Poundland! Have tried several of varying prices before and now got on with them but love this one. XHC Xpel Hair Company

FanSpamTastic · 12/03/2023 20:41

I have this garnier one. I got it in boots but not sure if they still sell as could not find it online. It lasts ages.

ChrisPPancake · 12/03/2023 20:49

I got a free sample of Gruum nourishing coconut shampoo which has lasted ages and seems to be very kind to my (dry, coloured & thinning) hair.

elevenplusdilemma · 13/03/2023 06:46

Gruum is my favourite (I've tried lots of different brands). It lathers well, lasts ages as long as the kids don't get hold of it and smells good too.
They nearly always have free trials.

kezzalouise · 29/03/2023 10:12

Just coming back here to say having ordered and tried a few, Kinkind would definitely be my number 1! I have really thick and quite long hair so use LOADS of shampoo, and it lathered up really well, and smells absolutely devine! Highly recommend! (You can buy it on Amazon)

I've ordered one!
(i must stay off S&B 😂)

How great for travelling this is! No leaky bottles and much lighter.

Ameadowwalk · 29/03/2023 21:04

I just bought the Aussie one the other day as I had forgotten to take mine for swimming. That lathers up well and is so soft, feels more like conditioner than shampoo but works like a shampoo. so now I have that as my gym/swim shampoo and still have the Ethique ones at home.
Thanks for the recommendation for Kinkind. Interested to try that one as well now.

Chocolateydrink · 29/03/2023 21:13

Another vote for Grüum. Love the coconut ones (it's very good for curly hair because it's made from coconut oil so moisturizing and it doesn't irritate my scalp like loads of liquid shampoos) and DSis liked the one for dyed hair, and she is very fussy.

Wallywobbles · 30/03/2023 06:05

Kitsch castor oil bar. First one of 50 odd that I've tried that doesn't leave a residue.
