Can anyone help me decide what to wear to my own wedding?!

I’m getting married for the second time at the end of May. Just me, DP & two witnesses at a register office. We’re having our celebratory ‘do’ a few weeks later.

I’m struggling to know what to wear for the ceremony. Can the wise minds of MN S&B offer any suggestions please?

For info, I’m late 40s, 5’3” and live in jeans. Not averse to the idea of wearing a (not too formal) dress on the day though if I can find one I like! I’m pale skinned so anything pastel tends to look shit on me. Budget wise if it’s something I’ll likely wear again I’d be ok spending up to £100 on it. I have a pair of silver sandals I like, so if it goes with them that’s all the better 😂
TIA

Have you got something for the do or is this outfit to do both?

I'd probably go for a really awesome bright trouser suit with white top.

CountryCousin · 10/03/2023 17:38

What size do you usually wear?

And where do you usually shop? (That is - do you want something fashionable, or not?)

Any colours you particularly enjoy wearing?

Will your husband-to-be wear something formal, or otherwise?

I wonder how this strikes you? Needs a hat at least for a bride

Love this dress

Ooh quick replies, thank you!

@Twizbe I have an outfit for the do. Like the idea of a bright trouser suit. That would likely be a 'wear once' thing unless I got invited to another wedding 😁

@CountryCousin 8-10, depending on brand. The dresses I do possess are mostly from Gap, so fairly casual. I don't like stiff fabrics. I wear blue, a lot. Not afraid to try different colours though. My natural hair colour is auburn, died a darker red these days, so some colours will work better with that than others.
OH says he will be wearing a suit (I imagine dark grey or blue) but no tie.

@PermanentTemporary I LOVE the style of that dress! The colour is not me, but if I can find something similar in a different colour I could be sorted!

@Whatisthisanyidea that dress looks great on the model but I'd want something a bit longer 🙂

How about this one which is a similar shape to the New Look one and comes in a range of colours

How about this?

I am 5'3 and age 53, I got married in October, 2nd time round, small registry office event, and got a really nice (different) dress from LK Bennett. I tried loads and eventually found one that suited me there. It was also really well made compared to everything I tried from cheaper shops.

I saw the one above as I thought it would go with your hair and it is a nice, simple style.

@Katrinawaves
@Netcam
I really like both of those! Thank you 😊

Have you thought about a dress rental? Hurr collective is a site I think I’ve seen mentioned

Glad to be helpful. This was my dress, it was a bit longer on me, but was a really good fit and the fabric was lovely. I hand washed it afterwards and it was fine, quite unique to find washable silk as I really didn't want anything dry clean only. I think their sizing is generous, I am 5'3 and can be 10 or 12 and the 10 and plenty of room.

How about an electric blue trouser suit. You could wear the trousers a lot as separates.

Blue is also quite a traditional 'non traditional' colour for a bride.

Could you wear your 'do' outfit for this as well?

NoisyBrain · 10/03/2023 19:10

@Kaftankween I saw something on TV about dress rental the other day. Never thought of that, I'll have a Google.

Liking all these suggestions!

@Twizbe I have a jumpsuit for the do which style-wise would be ideal for the ceremony too, but it's black.

Oooo you could do something so cool with accessories for that.

Perhaps a white blazer over it for the ceremony? Or a mega Carrie-esque white flower broach? Or you could have real statement jewellery in different colours - one for the do one for the ceremony.

NoisyBrain · 10/03/2023 21:00

So many good ideas, I think I should put all my future outfit decisions in the hands of MN😄

Feeling much more inspired now, thank you all so much!

I'm a jeans kind of person, and has a similar wedding to you, I wore jeans and a 'nice top' nothing stopping you doing this too

NeedNwJeans · 11/03/2023 11:16

One of the earlier posters LK Bennett dress was gorgeous, but I also found their website a nice collection that would fit as a wedding dress as well
