Merino/cashmere/alpaca/mohair socks

On the Pairs website they state, "You don't need to wash our socks after every wear due to their unique natural properties."

Is that true? I'm very much someone who washes socks after one day's wear. You don't want to risk a fungal infection! I can't imagine why the above fabrics magically can forgo frequent washing but I am open to hearing why.

Some fabrics (like wool and merino) can "absorb" bacteria, so it doesn't sit on the surface of the item and multiply (causing smells etc). They do need washing, just not as often. It helps they're breathable too!
