Much nicer than the coast one

MaidOfSteel · 10/03/2023 18:09

I usually try to look for positives, but can't find any with this dress. Sorry, OP.

I would have it taken in by a tailor and be more fitted. The other guest I know is wearing a very fancy gown.

From someone who makes all her own clothes - that’s a cut that couldn’t really be “taken in”. It’s meant to be loose and flowing. It just seems the wrong colour for the Mediterranean in early summer. And unless you’re as tall and thin as that model it’ll look like a nightie.

is it silk? If it’s not, it’ll look cheap.

fantasmasgoria1 · 10/03/2023 18:16

It's nice. I'm a goth and it's certainly not gothy enough for me. It's a prom dress or something like that to me.

StephenDedalus · 10/03/2023 18:23

Thank you @NatashaDancing that's exactly what I was referring to.

Of course it doesn't look like something a child would wear. At least not any child I've come across.

I can't find where the dress is from. OP just said not buying it will save her a lot of money.

To me, it doesn't look cheap.

It doesn't remotely look like something a child would wear. I don't think it looks cheap either.

Viviennemary · 10/03/2023 18:27

Awful. Totally and absolutely unsuitable for a wedding. Black is a no-no for weddings.

BlueHeelers · 10/03/2023 18:29

Ticktocktimebomb · 09/03/2023 19:59

Is it the colour, or the style that you like in your dress? This one from mint velvet is dark but is more what I imagine for a wedding in the med

Mint velvet

That Mint Velvet dress is very stylish - but ugh it’s polyester. What a pity.

Yesthatismychildsigh · 10/03/2023 18:34

The pleated skirt and ruff are hideous.

Wednesday Addams - I take it you haven’t read the whole thread?!

StephenDedalus · 10/03/2023 18:43

@SirChenjins I have been on the thread from the start.
I have never seen Wednesday Addams wearing anything like that.

She wears a button front black dress with a white collar...?

SirChenjins · 10/03/2023 18:49

Not in the most recent version of the AF, she doesn’t. Have you watched it?

SirChenjins · 10/03/2023 18:52

As in, this sort of thing

What's wrong with it?

I've googled Wednesday Adams and dresses - they're a helluva lot more interesting than the "nice" suggestion

SirChenjins · 10/03/2023 23:37

Good job we don’t all like the same thing, eh.

MrsSkylerWhite · 10/03/2023 23:39

I think it’s gorgeous.

newfriend05 · 10/03/2023 23:51

Your mum's right on the button .. it's looks like something Wednesday Adams would wear

ShakeItAllAboutYo · 11/03/2023 00:59

I would like it without the frilly collar.

ShakeItAllAboutYo · 11/03/2023 01:01

I also would say it's fine for a wedding. I'm assuming those who said it isn't believe the only acceptable wear for a wedding is a satin, floral tea dress with matching fascinator...

As the wedding is abroad though I would say no. I would go with a brighter colour if it's in a hot location. But this dress would be perfect for a colder British wedding.

ShakeItAllAboutYo · 11/03/2023 01:06

StephenDedalus · 10/03/2023 11:26

@LookingOldTheseDays who said I am in the UK?
Seriously - do you all raise 'an internal eyebrow' at the many, many men who wear black suits to weddings?
And what 'point' would I be making by wearing black?
This is exactly what I mean - it's so arbitrary and bizzare!
My mother wore black to both my wedding and my sisters and she LOVES our husbands! I wore black as bridesmaid for my sister...
WE looked elegant and fabulous! And if someone was 'inwardly judging <who knows for what??> well....that's on them imo

I have never worn a pastel colour to a wedding

Agree! Such an outdated view from pearl clutchers over wearing black to a Wedding.

BlueHeelers · 11/03/2023 11:42

Thing is, though, the first picture is not an elegant dress, whatever the colour.

And metres of polyester in the Med in early summer is just yuk.

So1invictus · 11/03/2023 13:52

LesserBohemians · 10/03/2023 16:03

In Ireland, there’s no issue at all with bare-shouldered wedding dresses in Catholic churches.

Nor in Italy. I've never been to a wedding here where the bride wasn't in a strapless, low cut dress tbh.
The dress in the OP (colour and all) is very typically the kind of dress wedding guests would wear where I am.

notawittyname1954 · 11/03/2023 14:12

I love it too. Think it looks interesting but I know lots of people don't like black for a wedding.
