I got that email today, Op. Did it used to be 4 points for every £?

Gingernaut · 09/03/2023 12:56

Yes.

Once upon a time it was 1 point for every 25p and you could part pay in points

Then it got to you need to cover the entire cost with points and you only get 4 points for every whole £

So instead of 6 points for a £1.50 purchase, you got 4

Now this 10% off Boots products and 3 points for each whole £

I was going to post about this. I’d have thought this will lose them more money (in mildly pissing people off and administrating the change) than it will save (surely can’t be much?)

Gingernaut · 09/03/2023 13:03

Boots do thousands of products, they may be trying to encourage us to switch from branded to Boots

I’ve read that it’s thought people want money in their pocket right now, rather than ‘saving’ with points for a larger purchase. So by offering a discount on own brand which can be accessed immediately and also gaining the benefit of higher profit margins on those lines, they expect it to be more popular.
In terms of costs I doubt it’s massive. Updating the till software happens all the time. Updating T&C pages and show material again, new show material arrives every week. Displays are constantly updated. Plus it’s getting free publicity for the scheme through media reports and people might be reminded to use their card, go back to the stores and see what’s on offer.

Considering some of the far more drastic changes made to other loyalty cards, I don’t think this is going to be a big deal for most people, tbh.

dontgobaconmyheart · 10/03/2023 15:15

This doesn't overly bother me to be honest. They won't be the only retailer cutting back somewhere or offering less discount or loyalty discount. It is what it is and I hardly can afford to spend a fortune in there regardless so only ever accumulate small amounts of points. Still nice to get something back, whatever that is is better than nothing.

ImAvingOops · 10/03/2023 21:38

So would this be 10% of No7 make up?

Brightstar84 · 10/03/2023 21:40

The own brand stuff is fairly cheap anyway - I think they are following suit from the likes of Tesco, Waitrose etc in giving ‘offers’ rather than loyalty points.

ImAvingOops · 10/03/2023 21:38

I think no7 is listed as an exclusion in their T&Cs Sad

ImAvingOops · 10/03/2023 21:49

@RockaLock , so it basically a discount in their boring shite, like aspirin and the stuff people actually want is excluded.
Every time I go in Boots, they are out of stock of the thing I went in there for. And what they do have is expensive. My branch closes for lunch as well, which is not at all convenient for workers needing to collect prescriptions at lunchtime!
I'm surprised they are still in business tbh.

Brightstar84 · 10/03/2023 22:05

I had a terrible experience in boots today. They operate one queue whether it’s for prescriptions or over the counter meds. There were 4 people working behind the counter, one at the till for a period of time, and it was well over 5 mins (I counted!) before anyone even acknowledged me!! There was no queue in front of or behind me. I get the pharmacists are busy but to be chatting amongst themselves and not even acknowledge a customer, even if it’s to ask if I can wait, is appalling

DysonBison · 10/03/2023 22:07

I get 10% off all Boots products as part of the contact lens scheme; it's not a bad discount.

Gingernaut · 11/03/2023 01:18

ImAvingOops · 10/03/2023 21:38

Nope No.7 beauty and cosmetics is exempt from the offer, as are Botanics, Soap & Glory, Liz Earle, YourGoodSkin and Cewe

I guess it's meant to be like the tesco dual price thing

smellyflowers · 11/03/2023 07:15

You get to keep the points you have though so that's something

Me too, but does this mean we know get 20% or are we no better off?

SOWK · 11/03/2023 07:43

*now get 😬

EspeciallyDedicated · 11/03/2023 07:52

I get the 10% off due to the contact lens scheme thing too, even though I stopped buying my contact lenses from them at least 15 years ago. The only own brand thing I tend to buy regularly is vitamins though. I will also be interested to see if I now get 20% off.

You could never part pay with points, it's never been a thing.
You still get parenting club points also, so 10 points per pounds on certain baby things.

FirstnameSuesecondnamePerb · 11/03/2023 08:15

I've got £25 worth of points. I'd sacrifice the whole feckin scheme if it meant that they actually employed enough staff on the tills /self serve and shop floor.

The last few times I’ve been to Boots bigger stores, one was for The Ordinary retinol but I wanted to ask questions about it. It took ages for them to find someone who knew what they were talking about.

Last year I wanted to buy perfume in a central London big Boots. Again, couldn’t be bothered or more disinterested in selling to me. But in another more touristy area London branch the perfume sales people (mostly men) were very helpful.
