Nail Varnish Advice

Age 57 & still pretty clueless about make up etc. I work in retail & need some nail varnish that will last. Am I better to go for gel or Shellac? My hands & nails are so unsightly & I want to treat myself to a manicure.

I like shellac, but it is a pain to get off.

Shellac - make sure it's the proper version and not a copy cat though. If properly applied it should come off reasonably easily in my experience.
