Split nail

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this but I'm after some advice.

2 years ago I had gel nails and ever since I've had a split thumb nail. I've tried cutting it short (ie below the split) but it always comes back. It catches in my hair when I wash it or on the lining of my bag.

I've tried using nail varnish, nail hardner and even nail glue to close the split but nothing has worked. I'm wondering if any of you wise mumsnetters have ever dealt with anything similar.

I've asked at nail salons and they've said there's nothing they can do 🤷‍♀️

Yes, I've had problems with split nails for years - both fingers and toes. The only thing I've had some success with is an anti fungal liquid paint. The splits haven't grown out yet but I can certainly see some improvement.

I will be following to see what others suggest as I'm sick of having broken nails.

ETA: I've tried nail glue etc too without success.

What brand of antifungal paint have you used? I'd be prepared to give anything a go at this stage.

@spacecadet I've got the Fungal Nail Treatment Pen from Supadrug

Yes this has been a massive pain in my arse for years. I started using Rimmel stronger nail, nail nurse and it appears to have worked! It's a clear pink varnish and I reapply 2/3 times a week.

How badly is the nail broken? I broke one of mine quite badly a few years ago & this method, unlikely as it may sound, did actually help keep it intact until it grew long enough to cut off the damaged section. I can't remember if I used superglue or nail glue, AFAIK they both work equally well for this method. Nail glue probably less harmful to the nail, maybe easier to remove.

Hard to say how badly it's.broken but to me it's been an ongoing problem now for coming up two years. I think I might try that pink clear liquid product then and the antifungal one. My next thought was to just try ordinary PVC glue!
