Face like a glowing amber post workout 🥵🥵

Hi,

I have finally joined the gym, and I am now finding that after doing cardio, my face is hot and bright red for at least an hour (and it’s winter!!). I normally do some errands afterwards so I would like to know if there’s something I can do to minimize the redness.

Should I look at specific face creams (given I am going in the shower and moisturizing anyway) or are cooling mists better?

Thanks

Following with interest as I'm the same - I'm puce whilst the other women in the gym swan around looking glorious. Also my dh always knows if I haven't done a proper workout which is unfortunate.

Dontsayyouloveme · 03/03/2023 11:24

I’m the same, not only is my face like a beetroot but I look like I’ve just had a shower I sweat that much. I’m not bothered what my face looks like though but as you are, I hope you find something to help! 👍🏼

blebbleb · 03/03/2023 11:25

Mine is always like that. Are you fair skinned by any chance? I'm fair and run really hot. I don't think there's much you can do really.

Anyonebut · 03/03/2023 11:28

I am not too fair skinned by UK standards, I am actually more yellowish tinged, but one of my grandmas had the permanent red cheek look (couperosis?).

Hoping for some more posters to turn up with a solution! 🙏🙏

I so hope you get a response to this - I am puce for an hour afterwards whenever I do exercise. Whereas my darling sister can run a marathon and not show it.

I recently started reformer pilates which I found great because you don't jump around all over the place and get too sweaty - but it does stretch and use your muscles a lot - am very sore today after a workout yesterday!
But afterwards I wasn't a sweaty mess and could walk around in public without a bag over my head.

idontbutido · 03/03/2023 11:40

Cold facial wash sorts me out and plenty of water. There are green colour correcting primers.

Scandicheek · 03/03/2023 13:12

I found the only thing that helped was getting (much) fitter. I used to go beetroot. Now -several years of gym going later - I still get drenched in sweat but my face doesn’t get that red anymore. No idea why 🤷‍♀️

Eevvee · 03/03/2023 13:14

Drink more water and give yourself time to actually cool down. Surely slapping a load of stuff on your face five minutes afterwards will leave your skin unable to breath and more hot?!

Stickortwister · 03/03/2023 13:18

Im not sure im much help as my red face put me off exercise for years....
Are u wearing too many clothes? I know that sounds like a daft thing to say, but even in winter i wear shorts and a vest top ( plus gloves) to do workouts outside. I also position myself under the aircon in the summer.
Getting fitter helps too.
Showering straight after seems to make it last longer but you have to balence that against the sweatiness.
Ive never found any make up that helps but im following for tips.

masterofmydomain · 03/03/2023 13:25

I'm the same. I went for a run this morning, it was 3 degrees c and I wasn't warm. But still bright red. It is not just my face either but my arms, legs, torso.

I think it's some of it is my colouring as I'm fair, blue eyed, blondish. I think some of it is my age too as I'm late 40s and tend to run warmer than I used to so possibly perimenopausal.

cocksstrideintheevening · 03/03/2023 13:35

I always look like a beetroot, I'm pretty fit. Putting stuff on my face after a workout wouldn't help, would make it worse.

Dominicains · 03/03/2023 13:38

I’ve always been this way, I sweat buckets from my head and my face goes an alarming shade of puce. To the extent that PTs have asked if I am ok, when I feel absolutely fine. It lasts for easily an hour after exercise, longer in hot weather. The only time it dissipated a little bit was when I was training at least 60 minutes 6 days a week for a triathlon and was insanely fit, plus stopped drinking alcohol for those 12 weeks. Not sustainable!

Scandicheek · 03/03/2023 13:40

Yes I train every day and don’t drink. Maybe that’s the key to not turning beetroot!!

Dontsayyouloveme · 03/03/2023 17:54

Sadly, it’s not. I don’t drink and still look like a beetroot after 40mins on cross trainer!

Anyonebut · 08/03/2023 15:17

Well, it was a little bit better today although not gone. Things I did differently:

  • chose the cross trainer and treadmill directly under the air vents
  • used thermal water spray that I had kept in the fridge when I finished.
  • showered with lukewarm water (as cool as I can stand it whilst still being able to wash my hair)
  • finished shower with a rinse of ❄️❄️water
  • used a moisturizer that has a gel consistency and says “cooling”, which also happens to be blue.

Still hoping that getting fitter will result in a more rosey less beetrooty face 🤞🤞

I agree it's just down to genetics. I've been the same all my life at my fittest (or currently not at all). Blonde and blue eyed pale person. One of my DC is the same. She looks like a beetroot after soft play and other DC not at all despite similar levels of activity.
