Fashion observations from people watching in an affluent southern market town

Following on from the London thread:

• Lots of puffa coats. Longer duvet style ones on 30+, shorter ones on youths.
• Teenagers mainly wearing Nike AF1s , blue jeans (looser styles, not skinny) or joggers and a short black puffa, preferably North Face.
• A few ladies wearing Dry-Robes as coats - is this a thing?!
• Vejas not as dominant for 40+ women as they were. More New Balance & other expensive brands eg Golden Goose, Isabel Marant .
• School gate a complete mix of women in office wear (even seen a few heeled shoes recently) but still lots of other mums in leggings & leisure wear
• backpacks are common, or many people don’t seem to carry any bag.
• popular going out in the evening items among 30+ women are leather look leggings, chunky heeled boots, cross body leather bags. Few midi dresses with boots, leather jacket.

I was in a south west city at commuter time. I'd never realised there was such a work uniform. Coat, usually a puffy one in black. Then legs either black trousers with either ankle boots, or flat shoes, the highest heel I saw was a couple of inches. Or mini skirt worn with either black tights or leggings again worn with ankle boots or flat shoes.

As for makeup I saw one woman, probably in her 40s, in full make up, most people were barefaced or has a soft eye and lip gloss .

The students were easily identifiable as both sexes wore baggy trousers or jeans , trainers and a shapeless jacket (I know they were students because we stopped outside the uni and they got off.

I was in London yesterday in the Covent Garden area. I also noticed the backpack popularity. Lots of smart-looking Knomo types.

As everyone seems to be wearing a lower heel I am reckoning that soon will be the return of sky scraper heels again! Hope not. I never wear high heels.
