Yes, that's exactly what my wedding ring is. 3 very small platinum rings melted into one.

SoupDragon · 01/03/2023 17:28

Yes. I had a small independent jeweller do this for me.

Fab. Thanks for replying a friend told me it was a no go for platinum. I'll do some digging to find a local jeweller

I think there might be something tricky about platinum.... I seem to remember my jeweller saying that he melted it down for another local jeweller who couldn't do it. I don't know why though,

I'm a jeweller, I would say potentially can be done but platinum is harder to "recycle" /melt than gold and sometimes depends on the style of the rings. If it was 2 wedding bands for example that would work, if it was a design with lots of solder in it that might not work as well.

trickyfriendsone · 01/03/2023 19:32

Ah maybe that's what my friend has been told. I think from my very limited knowledge they're pretty simple bands with little solder but will need to check that with a jeweller.

They'll never be worn in their current style (wedding/engagement and other ring) and it's a shame to have them sitting in a box.

It depends how important it is (maybe for sentimental reasons) to have the same metal used. Often it is easier to make new, use the clients diamonds or other stones, and then credit them for the scrap platinum if that makes sense?

Agree, it's a good idea to discuss with a jeweller what's possible in terms of using the old rings and remaking as a new design.

Thank makes send. There's a lot of metal especially in one of the rings that's a silhouette style. I'd be open to changing the metal even to gold but will see what they say. It will all come down to the cost so it might need to wait a few years yet
