Shoes for walking to farm gate

As the title might suggest I live on a farm and I am looking for easy shoes to put on to nip outside if I need to go to the 'big bin' or down the drive to the letter box. Both are in a gravel/ concreted area.

My husband wears wellies/ work boots so they always come off at the front door and slippers go on. Growing up on a farm this is how his house always worked. Our DS is about to start crawling and we think it might be better if we both don't wear outdoor shoes indoors anymore (I won't ask anyone but us to do this).

My issue is I've been going around in slippers but if I have to run out for a min I just go in my slippers so it sort of defeats the purpose! I leave my trainers by the door but I don't usually change. So I need something that will take literally seconds. I'm thinking something like this:

I have birkenstock sandals which I love but these seem pretty pricey for what I want. Although they may last forever in that case!

Anyone any thoughts? Yes I have little to be doing with myself for 5 minutes

You know it's Crocs.....

WeCome1 · 01/03/2023 15:26

Yeah. I have fake crocs with no holes.

PercyPhelps · 01/03/2023 15:27

I’ve got plastic slide on birkenstocks.

I have a pair of Skechers by the door which are the designated “bin shoes”.

Don’t fight the crocs!

I think I might have a very old pair of go-walk's paint splattered and all. I could cut the backs off those/ push them down so they are slip on

Those low Chelsea boot style wellies with the elastic sides? They look perfect for that job.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 01/03/2023 15:31

Regatta do ankle wellies that might work for this, some are on sale at the moment. www.regatta.com/womens/footwear/wellies/

FayCarew · 01/03/2023 15:31

Crocs. I wouldn't be without mine.

SirVixofVixHall · 01/03/2023 15:31

The plastic Berkenstock clogs (“Birkies”) would be better if you have mud, as they rinse off so easily, the whole footbed comes out. The back is also high enough for mud to not easily get into the clog ime.
Some Chelsea boots eg Blundstones are also really easy to pop on and whizz out in.

AcquaDeToilet · 01/03/2023 15:32

crocs and sandals will have the soles of your feet dirty. Why can't you wear slip on trainers or better yet wellies?

cobblers123 · 01/03/2023 15:32

I bought a pair of garden clogs a couple of years ago for less than a tenner and use those to go outside in.

I also have a pair of Sketchers that I put on for gardening and going down to the bin. Had those years.

RampantIvy · 01/03/2023 15:33

I have some Town and Country fleecy cloggies, and they are ideal for taking stuff out to the bins and the compost heap.

FayCarew · 01/03/2023 15:33

joules wellibobs are quite good if you don't need full length wellies

Skechers converted into mules are ... um ... words fail me

I love my Hunter gardening clogs - slip on and off so easily

pontipinemum · 01/03/2023 15:37

I have proper wellies and chelsea wellies for going places further on the farm. I won't use them as god love me it's too much effort.

I like the look of some of the slip on clogs people have posted. The places I will need them for are mostly concreted and (for the most part) never covered in cow shite!

You can get light weight clogs in garden centres that you slip on and off that would work.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 01/03/2023 15:44

I get you OP, you need something you can slip on without using your hands, when you're carrying a bin-bag/recycling etc. I use ancient ballet pumps, or my newer loafers Blush which I have ruined by running across the wet muddy lawn to the fridge in the garage. Cheap pumps from Primark?

openingbat · 01/03/2023 15:45

I have some smashing fur lined croc style slip ons for taking the dog for a wee. They were made for this!

Clogs. I have a winter pair, no holes and fleece lined. Ideal as easy to slip on and waterproof. If they are not really easy then you won't bother put them on so.... Something like this
