Shoes for walking to farm gate

pontipinemum · 01/03/2023 15:23

As the title might suggest I live on a farm and I am looking for easy shoes to put on to nip outside if I need to go to the 'big bin' or down the drive to the letter box. Both are in a gravel/ concreted area.

My husband wears wellies/ work boots so they always come off at the front door and slippers go on. Growing up on a farm this is how his house always worked. Our DS is about to start crawling and we think it might be better if we both don't wear outdoor shoes indoors anymore (I won't ask anyone but us to do this).

My issue is I've been going around in slippers but if I have to run out for a min I just go in my slippers so it sort of defeats the purpose! I leave my trainers by the door but I don't usually change. So I need something that will take literally seconds. I'm thinking something like this:

I have birkenstock sandals which I love but these seem pretty pricey for what I want. Although they may last forever in that case!

Anyone any thoughts? Yes I have little to be doing with myself for 5 minutes

Not only do I use crocs, but I use DH's Aldi knock-off crocs. He's a size 12 and I'm a size 5 Blush

You need them to be super quick to slip on and off or you won't wear them...

TheFormidableMrsC · 01/03/2023 15:56

I've got a pair of rubber gardening sliders. So basically like crocs without holes. They are so easy to slip on and off and easily rinsed clean. Mine are purple. I use them in the dark 🙂

MurderSheSpoke · 01/03/2023 15:57

We use sliders for this. I just can't do Crocs!

TellSomeoneElse · 01/03/2023 15:58

Crocs (fluffy lined are top tier) or flip flops here. Crocs are hideous but just so easy, and they never get seen just stomping around the yard so I don’t really care! Everyone is at the croc stage of their life, they just may not know it yet.

samsmum2 · 01/03/2023 16:00

Wellie clogs would be perfect I think! www.evercreatures.co.uk/products/evercreatures-all-black-clog-wellies

Porridgeislife · 01/03/2023 16:01

Crocs here as well. I have the kind with no holes (Crocs Specialist ii) so my feet don’t get dirty. If you’re willing to go outside in slippers then Crocs are surely fine :)

FayCarew · 01/03/2023 16:10

I see people wearing crocs out and about. Definitely seen some trendy-looking people wearing them in the supermarket.
I've been wearing them for years, and didn't stop when they weren't fashionable. Same goes for my Arizonas - but I don't want to get those wet or dirty.

samsmum2 · 01/03/2023 16:11

Crocs are definitely back in! Makes me laugh as my sons used to slag mine off and now they (in their 20s) wear them.

ApolloandDaphne · 01/03/2023 16:44

I have nice fluffy indoor slippers and hard wearing leather outdoor slippers. I change quickly from one to the other at the back door.

weaselwords · 01/03/2023 16:48

I got my gardening clogs from the middle in Lidl. They were perfect. I’ve also got the depot version of those birkies you linked but they soak up the rain and mud. The clogs were loads better for muddy outdoor scenarios.

weaselwords · 01/03/2023 16:49

Not depot, felt! Worst typo ever.

Spanielsarepainless · 01/03/2023 16:52

Lidl faux-Crocs. Were £2.99 last summer and still going strong.

NotMeNoNo · 01/03/2023 16:57

Delphigirl · 01/03/2023 18:06

I have gardening clogs
basically crocs but solid
can hose them down when they get too chickenshitty

RampantIvy · 01/03/2023 18:13

Some of the footwear linked to is pretty expensive for wearing just to take rubbish out IMO.

redspottedmug · 01/03/2023 19:27

Just get plastic clogs from the garden centre. With a fleecy lining.

Who are you trying to impress? Grin

I have these, they’re brilliant 🤩

Mistymoonsinastarrysky · 01/03/2023 19:30

🙄 sorry, goodness knows what happened there! Amazon lined clogs

Ethelfromnumber73 · 01/03/2023 19:43

Sorry, crocs is the answer

trulyunruly01 · 01/03/2023 19:57

I have a pair of oldish Skechers Bobs mule slippers with chunky soles for this time of year, and a very old pair of platform FitFlops for the summer.
I call them my 'nippins' as they are for when I have to nip outside swiftly to close a gate, put a bin in or out, go down to the 'food room', find a dog who has been outside in the dark for a little too long.

TangBloodyFastic · 01/03/2023 20:07

@pontipinemum nobody is ever at a point in their life where crocs are the answer...... until you get a pair and they are the answer to all of your shoe problems!

Honestly, I hated them. Then I got a pair given to me - as a joke.

Honestly... there is no going back! I ❤️ them 😂

RedLem0nade · 01/03/2023 20:10

I have the Birkenstock pair you have in your original post for exactly this purpose. 4 years old now and going strong. Worth the investment for me!

changedforonenightonly · 01/03/2023 20:10

Get some sliders op.

I have northgace ones in neon pink as my bin shoes. Comfy as fuck. They are like clouds to walk on.

itsgettingweird · 01/03/2023 20:10

The slip on type Birkenstocks.

You can buy cheaper versions. They have cork bottoms and over feet so are handy if it's cold and wet
