Comfortable trainers for city break

pottytrainingissue · 28/02/2023 11:07

I'm going on a city break in April, will be doing lots of walking (20-30k steps per day) I need to get some really comfy trainers to take, currently have a pair of vejas but I find them uncomfortable after about an hour of walking. Any recommendations? Thanks 😊

I find ASICS or New Balance best for walking all day. Something with good heel cushioning and arch support.

Northernsoullover · 28/02/2023 11:11

Sketchers. Not the trendiest I agree but I bought a pair for work as I'm on my feet a lot. They quickly became promoted to my walking around town shoe and I give no fucks about the brand. I bought a black pair so they look OK.

PillBoxes · 28/02/2023 11:19

Agree with the Skechers. I also have a black pair, very well cushioned and it's like walking on pillows. I use them for city breaks too, a lot of walking on concrete etc.
Sometimes fashion and comfort don't mix, but who will be looking at your feet anyway!

I have these new balances in a different colour and they are so comfortable

Another person for Sketchers. I walked miles everyday while on a citybreak in New York and they were super comfortable.

Willowtre1 · 28/02/2023 12:13

Allbirds, I have three pairs and they are so incredibly comfortable. I have two of the running shoes but wear them for every day wear and the high top mizzles which are waterproof

travailtotravel · 28/02/2023 12:15

Cushioned sole and arch support are key. Also then look at the sole - does it offer good "vibration protection" - will it help absorb the shock of all the pavement pounding. In walking boots, you have Vibram soles which help with this but walking boots are too clunky for a break - so look for walking shoes that looks a bit more like trainers. I wear Scarpa Mojitos - they look good with jeans and about town as much as on the side of a hill. Trainers wise, new balance all the way if this is the look you're after.

Do you think they’d be suitable for wide feet @Baxdream?

Baxdream · 28/02/2023 12:39

I'd say so

Minikievs · 28/02/2023 12:45

I use my asics or my old running trainers (old because I don't run anymore, rather than them being old) which are Brooks

Both are 100% more comfortable than fashion trainers, and I walked 25k steps a day on a city break long weekend with no issues

pottytrainingissue · 28/02/2023 13:53

Thanks for all your responses I will have a look at all the suggestions tonight and maybe order a few options to try

Fitflop Rally

AntennaReborn · 28/02/2023 16:19

I swear by FitFlops for sightseeing. They have some decent-looking trainers nowadays and they're extremely comfortable (not just for cushioning / support but I have also never had a blister in them even though I get them from pretty much any other brand)

mynewusername2023 · 28/02/2023 16:28

Last city break we went on the weather was fairly cold so I got some Skechers walking boots and paired them with thick walking socks. I was able to walk miles and for ages without any problems and I've never been able to do that before. I wore trainers if only out for an hour or so but the boots were a lifesaver.

It was my birthday a few months ago and I lost my mind temporarily and spent a ridiculous amount of money (to me) on a pair of Alexander McQueen trainers. A few months on and I can hand on heart say they are one of the best things I’ve ever bought. I walked miles around New York in them for a week and have worn them nearly every day, they wipe clean and look good as new and were comfy from the second I put them on. Depends on your budget of course but I cannot recommend these highly enough! I got mine with the metallic pink back but would love the red ones too-

Yes, second that

pottytrainingissue · 28/02/2023 18:50

Ah @FallopianTubeTrain I have had a pair of these trainers for the last 2 years worn twice due to the horrendous blisters they caused 🤣gutted as I wanted them for so long!

Superga cotu. So so comfy.

Oh no, bad luck- we must have very different feet!

In which case, let me recommend Axel Arigato. I have a pair I was determined not to be defeated by but at one point was worried I might need a skin graft they munched me so badly. My mum had to have a 'concerned word as your mother' with me about continuing to wear them (I'm 40) 😂.

Got there in the end but never again

GoingOff · 28/02/2023 19:25

On trainers are amazing. I bought mine for running originally but they’re so comfortable I wear them all the time.

My most comfortable trainers by far are my M&S leather ones. I've had three pairs of a variant of this trainer and each one has been fantastically comfortable.

I second these, could wear them all day. I have them in black.

I also have these vans which I have walked miles in

And some sketcher hightops which took me all over London recently.

TattiePants · 28/02/2023 21:09

i find New Balance and Onitsuka Tiger very comfy but neither compare to my Stan Smiths if I’m doing lots of walking.
