Colour Wow root cover up

Has anyone, particularly any brunettes out there, tried this and can vouch for this product? The online reviews are very hit-and-miss. Does it actually cover grey roots? Does it rub onto your pillow etc.?

I currently use the L'Oréal spray cover-up and I'm not a fan of the sticky feel and its non-precise application because I want to use it on my hairline too, not just parting.

Or any other, similar product anyone can recommend - I'm happy to hear it 😊

I use it and I'm brunette. I bought it because Trinny uses it but she's obviously got lighter coloured hair.

It's ok, not amazing, you can definitely still see the greys shining through and if you use too much, you can look a bit blocky/action man around the temples, even if you blend.

When I put it on my parting, you can still see the grey shining through in the sun. I've put this down to having strong greys though and haven't tried the root sprays.

I think it's expensive for what it is, I'll use up the rest of my palette but probably wouldn't buy again. It doesn't come off on the pillow, but does on your fingers if you keep touching your head!!

I haven't used that one but I have got a Clairol one that cost about a fiver and does the trick. I don't think it covers perfectly but it does blend in the greys and buys a bit of time before the next time I dye it. I haven't noticed it coming off on pillows or anything.

I use biokap spray on, not as sticky as most spray ones and I think less chemically than some too (I'm only dying that as it's sold in my local health food shop). I have the wow one and don't think it covers my greys well without lots of time going over the same spots. I have dark brown hair.

I used it a few years ago and Pune it rubbish! The powder ended up sliding down my roots and onto my scalp over the course of the day. Much prefer the sprays though they do need washing out daily.

Found not pune!

I used the w7 one which was about £8 on amazon but I think they've stopped making it as I haven't been able to buy it for a couple of years now. There's another one which I forget the name of, HG something? I have that one now but it's a lot darker than the w7 one I like.

Over the years I have noticed that it doesn't work all that well on freshly washed and dried hair. It covers much more evenly the day after a wash. My greys are actually silvers which glitter, and using these powders stops the glistening. It takes my greys from very noticeable bright white/silver to a very slight salt and pepper look. I use it on my temple area so have to get the application right to avoid a blocky look.

I would certainly say try it, but not the expensive brand as you may not get on with it and then you've wasted loads of money.

I use it and find it effective at covering my greys - it doesn’t come off on your pillow or feel sticky or make your scalp itchy. The downside is how long it takes to apply though.

daro · 27/02/2023 22:52

i use a combination of both. i find the root touch good on the front hairline as i hated the stickiness of the spray there. and yea it can be quite blocky if not blended well or you use too much. I have been using it for years and i am never without it. i dont notice it on my pillow but i do see in on the inside of my hats

StrawHatOnTheParcelShelf · 27/02/2023 22:54

I much prefer the Wow powder to root spray which makes my hair sticky and my scalp itchy. None of them completely mask greys but they blend them out a bit.

FergussSingsTheBlues · 27/02/2023 22:54

Not grey yet but these things are amazing if your hair is thinning or you have developed a wider parting!! My hair looks so much thicker .

skilpadde · 27/02/2023 22:59

I use it... it works really well for me. I only use it on my parting though, so it doesn't transfer to my pillow. I do have to be careful not to put sunglasses on my head, and be aware that there's a little transference when I use headphones.

The Bumble & Bumble Color Stick is also very good, and more convenient... it's like taking a crayon to your parting.

Thank you everyone, a mixed bag of reviews and opinions! I guess there isn’t a holy grail product in that category 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yes that's the one. I haven't bought it for a while and surprised at the cost (thought it was cheaper).
