I have been thinking about using bars on my hair for ages but never had the courage - for some reason I think it will make my hair dry?

Do you use bar shampoo and bar conditioners? What do you recommend?

Ethique are good

Sisisimone · 25/02/2023 22:50

I really like the Ethique bars. I started to get compliments about how good my hair looked almost immediately after starting using them

bellinisurge · 25/02/2023 22:52

I'm grey and use the White Hot Hair shampoo bar. Always struggled to find a decent conditioner bar - usually left my hair all claggy. Tried the Ethique purple one. It's excellent.

Another vote for ethique but might be worth checking if you're in a hard water area. I've found that shampoo/conditioner bars are really hard to lather in hard water areas.

Grüum shampoo bars are great. I've not tried any conditioner bars though.

Another vote for Gruum they had a free offer on facebook pay £3.95 postage and get a face bar a body bar and a shampoo bar, all lovely.

FamilyAreEverything · 26/02/2023 11:43

And another vote for Gruum. I’ve been using them for well over a year. They last for ages, especially the conditioner bar (around 4 months, washing my hair almost daily). The conditioner takes a little while to get used to as when you apply it, it feels nothing like liquid conditioner feels, but the result after rinsing is just the same (better in my case - fine hair, doesn’t feel so weighted down with product)

Sisisimone · 28/02/2023 15:49

I've used Gruum and Ethique and found the Ethique so much nicer. Hair looked far better with Ethique as well

Whatwouldscullydo · 28/02/2023 16:03

Ethique is good but pricey. If you want something a little cheaper i also recommend Kin Kind.

JennyTheDonkey · 28/02/2023 16:30

What are the Ethique conditioner bars like?

Barannca · 28/02/2023 16:40

I was sceptical about them too but I was given a gruum soap bar and it's very good. It lathers really well and doesn't dry out my hair at all. And it lasts ages. U don't think I will go back to liquid shampoo

They are ok - they don't feel the same as liquid conditioner and don't lather up the same, but my hair looks conditioned afterwards so must be doing something!

But not great in hard water areas (I haven't found any that are)

JennyTheDonkey · 28/02/2023 21:47

Thanks @cortisolqueen, I'm very much a convert to shampoo bars but hadn't heard good things about the conditioner bars...might give one a go

WhereAreWeNow · 01/03/2023 10:23

I'm using a Faith in Nature shampoo bar and I like it. My hair seems thicker when I use it. I haven't tried a conditioner bar though.

Lush angel hair bar

QuertyGirl · 01/03/2023 10:50

With conditioner bars, you can dissolve in them in boiling water and then store it in a Tupperware. Use it like liquid conditioner then.

The friendly ones work very well like this:

I'm travelling to a European city soon for a few days with my daughter. She's had unlucky experiences in the recent past with airlines/airports losing her checked baggage. So we are just taking hand luggage.
To get around the 100ml liquid limit, we've bought shampoo and conditioner bars.
So that's one big advantage of them straight away!

Foamie, the brown one on my thick dry hair is great! Others dried my hair out
