Petite midi or maxi skirts

I'm a trouser wearer - jeans leggings, etc. Recently I have lost 3 stone and fancy this summer trying those long dresses and skirts that seem to be everywhere.

I need them for work, in a classroom all day so must be practical, and not too expensive as could get glue/pen etc on them.

I am 5 ft 1 and a size 14 (heading towards a 12), apple shape. Do I tuck tops in (shudder)? What about my stomach?! Will it look awful? Or do you have to be tall and willowy to wear them? I always find things too long, even in petite ranges, will 5hey make me look stumpy?!

Help me with some recommendations from people of a similar build please.

Thanks!

I'm petite size 10-12, 5'3, and can find a midi dress is more like maxi on me, which is potentially an option for some styles. The main thing for me is to make sure the top/waist is close fitting and the bottom half A-line or straight rather than gathered. Anything that hangs off my boobs like a sack and doesn't taper in at the waist looks terrible. But generally I prefer short, straight, fitted but not so much that they are bodycon, summer dresses, which might be mini on some people but are getting towards just above knee on me.

I would look at New Look as they have a petite section and things don’t cost the earth.

Am also petite - new look are a good shout to dip your toe in this look. Yes tuck tops in, otherwise it’s all too much material on a small frame. I’d start with dresses.

at your height, normal range longer length midis (so the ones that are supposed to be half way down the shin) will look maxi, or go for the petite range.
