I know you ladies like a challenge... DD late teens, quite tall, size 12 fairly rectangular body and small cup size, what sort of style would you recommend.

We are going in person shopping soon (and taking her friends along for input) but always nice to have some ideas

TIA

I find A line most flattering. You might also get away with a slimmer dress with a mermaid style hem but if she's like me not the skin tight mermaid dresses, more just a kick flare at the bottom which creates shape through it's silhouette. Avoid details like belts or seams at the waist as that draws attention to what is comparatively the widest part of her figure. Don't get too hung up on rules, the shop will guide her and her being confident in her dress is the thing that will shine through.

My advice would be to try on lots of different shapes (even ones she's not keen on) and really talk about what you like and don't like about each, until you build up a picture of what she really wants, which should hopefully be what really suits her. I've done lots of wedding dress shopping over the years and what brides usually start off thinking they want changes drastically when they see what really suits them.

Yes that's great advice too.

I agree with try on loads, we did prom dress shopping last year (I still have all the pics of every dress she tried on cos she looked so beautiful 🤣) my daughter wanted to go to this one shop cos she had fallen in love with a dress she had seen on their Instagram page, she was so excited seeing it on the rail.

The manager said to pick out about as many other dresses as she could to try as well.....that was the easy part as there were soooo many. She tried on about 8, all different styles and colours. The one she wanted, she didnt like it when she put it on. She was gutted, until she tried on this other one, then she literally radiated happiness in the mirror-and I cried 🤣🤣🤣🤣 The one she went in wanting was navy blue tiered skirt and she came away with a bright red strappy backed princess skirt!

We went to team prom in Sutton in Ashfield, highly recommend them, if you're not local their Instagram page has loads of their dresses for ideas!
