help what to wear?!

Corporate hospitality at Cheltenham with some very horsey regulars. Not ladies day.

invitation says “smart day wear, hats optional” whilst everything I’ve seen on insta is very low key tweedy-country or love island summer wedding.

for those who’ve actually been what should I wear??

Smart tailored trousers/ jeans and smart overcoat/ tweed jacket. It's so cold that it doesn't matter too much what you wear underneath- plan blouse/ polo neck is fine. I wear a hat but nothing fancy!

Sounds like you'll be in one of the boxes if it's corporate so you shouldn't have to worry so much about cold and rain.

It's really pretty casual but no jeans or trainers. A lot of the guys adopt the Peaky Blinders style atm. If you are not dyed in the wool horsey types you can't compete with their country-set tweeds though. I wear a nice navy coat with a short wool dress and boots, topped of with this hat ....

Yes we’ll be in a box - my outerwear is pretty solid but assume it’ll come off in the box, we’ll be sitting down for lunch etc

I have a light blush pink trilby style hat with pheasant feathers that I picked up at another horsey event so will probably wear that although very tempted by something a little more chic especially if a more dressed up look is required.
