Double denim yay or nay?

What’s your opinion? If you do it, how do you make it look good and intentional?

I think it's fine if they are deliberately different colours/shades. I quite often wear black jeans and a blue denim jacket, or vice versa. Harder if they are the same colour

LadyOfTheCanyon · 20/02/2023 18:01

I quite like a heavy dark blue denim shirt with selvedge jeans and big boots in an austere industrial style, but I'm less keen on the Canadian tuxedo look, however tongue in cheek it's done.

Completely different colour denims I'm not sure I'd even register as double denim iykwim.

HeadNorth · 20/02/2023 18:13

It’s a nay from me, too Status Quo adjacent Grin

Floisme · 20/02/2023 18:22

I must admit it's such a no-go area that I'm very tempted. And I have the stuff already so there'd be no shopping needed. I've just not figured out a way of doing it yet that feels fresh and, as you say op, intentional.

coconotgrove · 20/02/2023 18:37

A huge yes from me (but only if the colour of the denim isn't matchy matchy).

LimeCheesecake · 20/02/2023 18:38

I think this is very stylish on other people. I, however, look like I’m in b*witched.

Highdaysandholidays1 · 20/02/2023 18:42

@LimeCheesecake that's me. I'd love to do double-denim and make it look cool and intentional (perhaps with two really nice pieces, dark skirt, light jacket or even dare I say it a white jacket) but I know the truth! My teenagers would probably wrestle me to the ground if I tried to go out in my vaguely naff slim fit blue jeans and my nicely tailored denim jacket (the jeans are already the 'wrong' blue apparently)!

uncomfortablydumb53 · 20/02/2023 18:46

I'm wearing it now!
Dark blue jeans and a lighter blue denim shirt
If I wore white jeans, i like that combo too

soupmaker · 20/02/2023 18:57

Yes. I do this all the time.

Very dark straight leg jeans with a large turn up with pale denim shirt, or oversized denim dresses, or denim short sleeved blouses. Wear Chelsea boots or chunky trainers.

Also do grey skinnies with all the above tops and Birkenstocks.

Also wear dark denim skirts with the denim blouses, brightly coloured tights and loafers.

Have even been known to throw denim blazer over denim dresses.

No fucks given.

Purplecatshopaholic · 20/02/2023 19:00

No, no, no! Might suit some people (I said might…) - I am not one of them…

Bingoflings · 20/02/2023 19:12

I felt brave a few summers ago and put stonewash long denim jacket on with pale blue boyfriend jeans and some sequin (gold and peach) espadrilles. DH said I looked like Jason Donovan. Then I saw myself in the mirror and decided it wasn't such a good look. I think some can pull it off very well just not me.

DramaAlpaca · 20/02/2023 19:24

I'd never do double denim. It's just not me and I couldn't pull it off.

Welfast · 20/02/2023 19:30

It's too Suzie Quatro's fat Nan on me

boboshmobo · 20/02/2023 19:31

I wear double denim a lot , I definitely don't look like status quo 🤷‍♀️🤣

Catsservant · 20/02/2023 19:41

Double denim reminds me of jimmy corkhill from Brookside

Always4Brenner · 20/02/2023 19:42

I do and love it I’m happy so society can do one.

Niftythrifter · 23/02/2023 18:44

Did it today. Light denim shirt, mid wash jeans and dark blue baseball boots!

Doing it again today! Boden high wait wide leg jeans in a dark wash, Levi’s denim shirt in a mid wash, Cos blue jumper with capped sleeves and dark blue Primark baseball boots!

When I think of double-denim I think of the jeans and denim jacket combo- as someone said, the B*witched approach. I think dark jeans and a lighter denim/chambray overshirt with something else underneath sounds great! I'm buying a denim long dress, it's a lot of denim...

Pigtailsandall · 24/02/2023 12:21

I think it can be v cool, I'm just not confident enough for the look. I think I could do dark or black jeans with a light shirt, but my denim jacket is to be worn exclusively with dresses

Zipps · 24/02/2023 12:32

It's a bit hillbilly for me. Having said that I have seen it done right. It was on a 6ft texan girl with long, slim, tanned limbs and long beachy waved hair she had blue cut off denim shorts, a fitted plain white t-shirt, cowboy hat and a blue demin shirt tied around her waist. 100% cool af and strangely enough I have never tried to replicate it.

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 24/02/2023 12:39

I think it can look good when it's jeans paired with a paler coloured chambray shirt. Double denim lite, if you will. Jeans with a matching denim jacket is a bit trickier.
