Can we chat about nice knitwear for spring?

I have been wearing lots of cashmere roll necks and they've been brilliant for the colder months however they're too warm with the high neck for now.

I am looking for some nice, good quality knitwear that will not bobble and go shapeless within a couple of wears.

I will be wearing it with wide or slightly barrel leg trousers so I'm not after anything too chunky.

I'm not into huge baggy fit either.

Last year I bought some nice knits from Sezane but they were really itchy and and also more of a boxy shape than I like, so I didn't wear them as much as I thought I would.

I think I'd like fine merino but with some nice detailing and in good colours. I wear lots of green, dark blues, plum, burgandy etc

Where should I be looking?

I've had brilliant merino jumpers from Gap in the past, but it doesn't look as they've got an enormous selection at the moment. Uniqlo likely to have every colour under the sun, no idea on their merino quality (although I find merino is excellent with no bobbling in general).

Uniqlo knitwear is pretty terrible quality. It is cheap, though.

I pretty much only wear cashmere/wool jumpers between Oct & April (always cold)!

M&S is the best for value vs quality. Otherwise I have nice merino and cashmere from JCrew (the best but pricey), Jigsaw, Pure Collection, Soft Goat and H&M

I have some lovely fine knits from Sugar Hill which are perfect for now.

I wear my Uniqlo cashmere jumpers year round as well as my various sezane ones. I mean maybe not in the heat of a hot summer day but we don't usually have loads of those.

Gap used to do a nice fine merino crew neck too but I haven't been in store recently.

Jigsaw has some great knitwear at the moment!

Thank you all! I'm off to Google now & will start with jigsaw as I already have a gorgeous bottle green cashmere round neck jumper from there that's at least 6 years old & still perfect.

I might try to filter a sezane search for cashmere as the styles are so very lovely but the few things I bought were scratchy & irritated me when I wore them. But they weren't cashmere

Years ago I had some gorgeous cashmere from boden but their quality went down hill & prices went up

John Smedley has fine knit merino jumpers in interesting colours. I have them in plum, rust and paprika. The sales are always good.

I have a fine knit merino jumper from Uniqlo, but I don't think their color range is great. They do too many muted colours and not enough bright colours.

Depends if you want merino that is knitted like a jumper, or jersey type merino. I wear jersey type merino in spring/autumn as I move away from knitted wool jumpers. Having said that, I'm sitting here in a Jigsaw cashmere roll neck right now, probably not Spring quite yet for me. Have a look at Dilling, they have great long sleeved merino tops which are good quality and jersey type, but not superwashed and still feels more like wool. If you want superwashed merino, which is really smooth and even more jersey like, have a look at Smartwool or Icebreaker. The Smartwool thermal 250 thickness merino tops are really good and thick enough to be warm, but light enough for Spring/autumn. I would size up if you want to wear any of these as a long sleeved top rather than a base layer, it will still be fitted but with a slightly looser fit. I am UK 10-12 34D and like size 40 tops in Dilling or M in Icebreaker/Smartwool for tops not used as a baselayer. For a tighter fitting baselayer I would go for 38 in Dilling or S in Icebreaker/Smartwool. I would only buy Icebreaker/Smartwool in the sale, whereas Dilling are already reasonably priced and rarely have sale prices.
