Hair Mesh System

Has anyone had a hair mesh system fit? I have pretty crap thin hair around the crown and fringe. I’ve had a quote from a leading salon for about £2,500 and it will last 2 years I’m told and then I would have to visit salon every 6/8 to have it adjusted which will cost £150 a time plus extra for cutting and colouring. I live 2 hrs away from nearest salon. Aside from cost and time how is it to actually have one? Is it uncomfortable? Does it make you hot? Has it changed your life for better or do you regret having it done? Can anyone recommend somewhere or something that helps them if not mesh system? My hair is getting me down now and is actually ageing me. I think if you’ve got a good thick head of hair it can knock years off you.

I have just had a mesh integration and it’s the worst choice I could have made! My thinning hair is now active balding the system has added extra tension even with maintenance every 2 weeks and full refit every 10 weeks.

I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone they are bulky and itchy. I had it taken off yesterday and all I want to do is cry. I have a little topper so that helps my confidence but I don’t want to see anyone or be in any social situations I’m only 37 so it’s very upsetting.

Nat6999 · 07/09/2023 23:53

What about a topper? You clip it on with tiny clips & it covers all the hair on the top of your head? Would be cheaper than any permanent system, if you get a natural hair one matched to your colour, nobody need know you are wearing it.

Texttotext · 08/09/2023 00:09

I have a Mesh integrated hair system - it has changed my life and I wouldn't be without one ever again! Although I do have Alopecia so it works as an almost semi-permanent wig for Me. The cost was hefty but the quality is so realistic and light, I don't even feel it and can live a 'normal life (swimming, sleeping, rollercoasters 😝)
Sounds like you might benefit more from a Topper? They're so easy to use and if you're happy to spend the money, very natural too. I recommend ordering something like a a Jon Renau one to play with first, before investing in Human hair.

Hi Olilley and Texttotext,

I have booked in for a system on a couple weeks, would you give me some more info on your experiences? This one lasts a year and is tightened every 6 weeks but I'm super nervous! They think I have diffuse alopecia? It's all very new to me my hair has fallen out/broken away over the last 6-12 months and now I'm starting the medical route but also just want to feel good again 🥺

Olilley · 15/09/2023 18:28

Hello, I’m sure there are positive experiences but mine was negative mine was supposed to last up to a year but had started to show wear and was done by 6 months.

I had mine tightened every 2 weeks and a full refit every 10 weeks. I am waiting for dermatology next month but I’m thinking I am androgenetic alopecia which has now peaked after two children and being 37.

The system came off two weeks ago and I was shocked at the severe loss that had occurred as well as traction alopecia where it had rubbed it was quite upsetting. It makes sense though a scalp needs to be clean and cleaned to encourage new hair growth and if it’s hidden under the system it’s not going to get the full cleanse it needs.

it’s now off and I feel liberated I’m now on with regain and scalp massages waiting to see what my appointment says.

Hi @Flossityann 👋
What exactly would you like to know?
I've had my System for coming up to 6 Months now, it was bespoke made by hand and coloured after my consultation - mine is human hair.
I have it refitted and checked every 6/8 weeks. I wash it twice a week and although it's integrated into what little hair I have left, it's also secured with small tapes that I change every time it's washed. Not a single person apart from my DH and a few Family know I have it, everyone genuinely thinks it's my real hair.
The parting is beginning to show some wear so I will have a new parting fitted probably at the start of next year.
It's costly but 100% worth it! I
wish I didn't spend so many years faffing about with wigs and toppers and got the system sooner

Feel free to fire any questions!

Flossityann · 16/09/2023 00:14

Thank you both for your messages!

Would you be comfortable sharing where you got your systems? I would love the concept to work for me but I do worry that it will make my hair loss worse in the long run.

I'm also envisaging it to be hot/itchy/sore? I think i will go for some free consultations and take my time. X

Texttotext · 16/09/2023 06:44

@Flossityann - Mine isn't hot or itchy at all. The mesh is surprisingly light and allows a lot of airflow! I've worn it on the beach in our recent Heatwave - teamed with a Cap to protect the Hair (as advised!)
My first few weeks of wearing it I did have a small reaction to the adhesive wig tape, but that's gone now. I applied a little E45 on the sore areas which soon cleared up and haven't returned since. My skin is naturally sensitive though, so I wonder if it was just Me?

My stylist is amazing at what she does so my opinion is not of her work but of how the system worked for me personally as a whole. she gets her ‘closures’ ( the top part of amazing quality hair) from hair closures uk (have a nosy in their insta).

I have just been to Rhodes and agree it’s very breathable and manageable and I also wore a hat to protect the hairs integrity. Washed once a week with paragon and sulphate free shampoo.

It still felt bulky and what always frustrated me was the front was never flat enough for me and I was always tying to blend the front so it looked natural. I had a silk based closure as apposed to lace and the parting looked great.

When you go into this like I did I looked at so many Instagram accounts to see but a lot don’t show the front. I have included a screenshot of a salon I follow who specialise their work looks great and may give you ideas, I didn’t go to them as they are not local but they use the same hair close suppler as mine did so you can see the hair quality.

I have included a photo of when the system was first applied it looked ok and I could mask the front bit reasonably then as times goes on you really can’t blend it as it thins. I found after a week and a half after a tightening just before your next it would be loose she didn’t want to use loads on tightening and beads round the front as that would compromise my bio hair…but the itchy front did anyway.

I hope this helps. This is my personal option but I do know it works for so many people too. I am now trying hair toppers which gives me the freedom to choose and give my scalp a rest.

I also forgot to post this was my hair in January before the system…this was my hair 2 weeks ago when it came off…there is a whole number of factors which why it didn’t work for me and I’m sure it wasn’t just because of the system but it most certainly wasn’t a cure to ‘rest’ my hair underneath like I thought it would.

Has anyone had a successful hair mesh system with corkscrew curly hair? My hair is now so thin you can see my scalp and I can't find anyone who can deal with curly hair.

workshy46 · 01/02/2024 18:41

Ive had issues since kids although luckily my parting was unaffected so extensions worked v well for me. That being said they do damage your hair so I would think unless you are prepared for a lifetime commitment and know that they will damage what is left don't go for it- I would opt for a topper in its place
A few years back my parting was horrendous and I used this and upped the supplements and it was amazing. I didn't include henna as my hair is blond

I would make this decision based on whether you have hopes of your hair ever returning. I would defo not use on diffuse thinning as that sounds like a temp issue. If you have androgenic but it's early days then a clip on topper would be best. You need to really explore what's out there. Thin skin or silk is most realistic but if you have a fringe or curly hair you can get away with a lot more. Blonde and straight like the poster above is harder to conceal. Systems allow you to wear it 24/7, if that isn't an issue for you then defo go for a topper.

I had a beaded system and I went from having border line ok enough hair to Peter stringfellow in a year. In fact I was going to take my big name provider to court but they settled. I was totally being vain when I got it and now it is ruined for ever but I was going to loose it anyway but would have been over 10/15 years not a year. Mine did make some mistakes to make it worse. The staff are mostly 16 year old apprenticeship girls.

I have flat, fine straight long brown hair. In the end I decided my hair won't be coming back so started to glue it myself. I found a Facebook group called bonding sisters and it was excellent at explaining what to do. It was a bit scary at first but I wouldn't go back. It is so much cheaper than a system, doing it for yourself and you have a lot more control over everything. I get a thin skin injected piece from beauty girl a Chinese vendor on insta. I have used them for 3 years. Incredibly realistic and super flat. They last 3 months and cost £200 something. I don't have any other hair outgoings tho. So probs cheaper than going to hairdressers each month if I had good natural hair. Because I wear 24/7 3 months is the max I can get out of it and apparently injected thin skin shed quicker than hand tied. Anyway, it's great and no one can tell. It blends with my own hair which is ok at sides and back. It was just on top.

Hope the above helps!

SkippyS I’d be interested in talking to you. I’m using a mesh system and not happy with it.

BoldPlayer · 24/02/2025 12:13

I'd advise buying a HD natural looking wig to be honest! I've got a mesh topper fitted. I thought I'd try it. Costing so much to be unhappy and yes teary. Was great the first week. Then the unit starts to look fake. I've now got bald spots because had they say! Nothing grows under a shade. Ruined my life and confidence. Stay clear 🙄
