Off to Venice at the end of April and I forgot to drop 4 stone 🙄
I've not been away since 2019 and looking for help choosing some things.
I normally wear dresses all the time as I just find them easier.
I'm size 18 and a huge apple shape.
Anyone got any suggestions please?

What will the weather be like?

I'm packing today for a trip to London. Thinking:
roll up jeans / black merino jumper / leather jacket / trainers / scarf to travel in

black dress with leather jacket and black flat slingbacks for dinner on the first night

wide leg trousers, striped top, leather jacket, trainers for sightseeing on day 2

leopard print short dress with black tights and flat slingbacks for dinner day 2

day 3 will wear either day one or day two outfit for more sightseeing and home!

This is travelling very light, and not going anywhere dressy.

I will be going to Venice for 4 days in early May & I will bring things like:
Wide legged trousers
Cashmere round neck jumper
Cropped wide legged trousers
Merino jumper
Couple of nice tops (silk blouse etc)
Trainers by day & flat laced ankle boots for evenings
Bring a jacket as it can get cool in the evenings & a small umbrella as its prone to showers. I usually throw a fine wool scarf in as it can be cooler out in the water on vaporetto etc
I like to dress for lots of walking by day & then get changed for drinks & dinner even though most places are reasonably casual. We usually go for 1 nicer meal each trip & I get more dressed up for that.
No heels though - too many cobbles & steps!
Hope you have a really wonderful time, its a truly magical place!

  1. Take an umbrella or a waterproof coat. It might not rain, but if it does it pours
  2. A jacket with inside zipped pockets. Pickpockets are a massive problem in Venice, especially on the vaporettos
  3. Comfortable shoes - you will do a lot of walking

I realise that these aren't stylish solutions, but more on the practical side, but having been cold wet and miserable in Venice because I focused on style rather than fashion I tend to err towards the practical these days.

Trainers and comfy shoes
Puffa jacket or other waterproof jacket
Unless you're planning on eating in posh restaurants then you don't need to dress up.

My other advice would be don't use a big bulky backpack as your 'handbag' Venice can get crowded especially in some of thr smaller streets & these bags can be a total nuisance & also easier to pickpocket from.
I've been to Venice about 12 times & have never once been robbed. I pretty much always have a cross body bag leather handbag. Usually with a zip
Other top tip is bring a second pair of shoes as its wonderful to kick off the trainers after a long days walking, have a shower & wear fresh shoes to go out in the evening

watching with interest.

Thanks everyone.
Off to search for wide leg trousers and a cross body bag.

The most comfortable shoes you own.

Other than that, just match the weather. May well be colder than you expect so puffer jacket.

Practically everyone you see will be a tourist and not especially stylish.

but having been cold wet and miserable in Venice because I focused on style rather than fashion

Oops. That should say style rather than practicality!

Bumping this thread as there are some great ideas - also love that OP forgot to lose 4 stone (I forgot to lose a couple too).

I usually take straight leg jeans, magic trousers (XL size goes up to a 20) and M & S wide leg trousers. Silky top, cami, midi satin skirt or pleated skirt, 2 skimming v neck t shirts and a dress

I travel in black magics, black v neck t shirt and a trench or denim shirt dress plus trainers and a big scarf.

1st night- I take a black blazer to wear in the evening with black magics turned up to crop length with a floaty blouse

2nd day - jeans, floaty blouse & trench with trainers

2nd night - silky cami to wear with the wide leg trousers and blazer

3rd day - wide leg trousers, t shirt, trainers and blazer plus big scarf

3rd night - Wear a satin bias cut skirt, cami and blazer

Travel home in jeans, t shirt and trench & trainers

Cross body day bag, really tiny umbrella that fits in cross body bag, earrings and small cords body chain bag for evening and a travel steamer. I try not to worry too much as there's always shops on the city breaks, I'll happily buy a dress, jumper or jacket if I need to 😂
