1: if your Autumn and Winter wardrobe essentially revolves around black polo necks, what is your Spring equivalent?
2: if you wanted to wear trainers not white) with a midi skirt in February, would you go bare legged, nude tights, black tights or fishnets?
3: if your skin feels all itchy and tight when you wake up, what product would you be looking for?
4: what top (casual) would you wear with wide leg black trousers and trainers?
5: if you’re getting too old/dry skinned for Double Wear, what have you replaced it with?
6: if you wanted a casual black midi skirt or a leopard print midi skirt where might you look?

Any thoughts on any of the above much appreciated! 😂🤪

1: if your Autumn and Winter wardrobe essentially revolves around black polo necks, what is your Spring equivalent?

See above

2: if you wanted to wear trainers not white) with a midi skirt in February, would you go bare legged, nude tights, black tights or fishnets?

Either bare legs or black tights.

3: if your skin feels all itchy and tight when you wake up, what product would you be looking for?

Which skin? Drink more water. Exfoliate. Antihistamine?

4: what top (casual) would you wear with wide leg black trousers and trainers?

Breton? Cashmere jumper. Denim shirt

5: if you’re getting too old/dry skinned for Double Wear, what have you replaced it with?

Not sure what double wear is. But I wear Laura mercier primer and tinted moisturiser

6: if you wanted a casual black midi skirt or a leopard print midi skirt where might you look?

Vinted
Me & Em
H&M
Depending on budget

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/02/2023 13:12

Thanks for all of these.

1: Too warm for cashmere! I've got M&S merino jumpers which are brilliant, but am thinking for milder days, with a leather jacket.
3: face is the problem. I currently use this at night with one of the oils, although I've currently forgotten which one.
4: I'm too round for a body, and most shirts are too long and look a bit daft. Neatish fitting turtle necks or merino crew necks are all I've found that works so far. I don't like tucking things in - am too short waisted.
5: Just got a sample of a different EL one - will report back when I've tried it.
6: ideally want a real life shop, rather than online/second hand

@goodsea I've got a denim shirt which hardly ever gets worn because I never know what to wear it with! Will try it with the trousers. Thank you!

Like the efficient numbered question approach!

1 like PP I would look at knitted tshirts or short sleeve lightweight wool knits. I have found some great Joseph ones on Vinted

2 bare legs and funky or bright coloured socks

3 Clinique cleanser may be the issue - it’s not a particularly gentle brand, especially if it’s a foaming cleanser that strips the skin. Try a facial mist or toner for extra hydration and then add some drops of oil to your moisturizer to lock it all in

4 long sleeve tshirt or lightweight knit (silk or linen knit rather than wool) COS and Jigsaw do good ones

5 don’t wear foundation but you could try adding a few drops of light moisturizer or oil to it before applying to ‘loosen’ it

6 Mint Velvet, Hush, Whistles, Next should all have some midi skirts, Uniqlo would also have a good basic black one

On number 5, is it the replacement of DW light? (Of which I now cannot remember the name ). If so, I didn't think it was great. Such a pity they discontinued Light, as that was really quite nice.

TheGold · 19/02/2023 13:47

Well, I’m no style guru but I can offer up a few answers.

As a fellow black polo neck lover, I gradually move into black or dark coloured scoop or v neck tops/sweaters/bodies. Then to lighter colours…. and then sack off tops and trousers/skirts in favour of dresses as soon as it’s bare leg weather.

Trainers only ever with bare legs with skirts for me. Never black tights.

I switched from Doublewear to Nars Naturally Radiant foundation + Nars creamy concealer about a year ago. Mid forties and DW was just too ‘flat’ and drying on my ageing skin.

hekissedmybottom · 19/02/2023 15:26

1: if your Autumn and Winter wardrobe essentially revolves around black polo necks, what is your Spring equivalent?

Lounge suits with a baggy long cardi

2: if you wanted to wear trainers not white) with a midi skirt in February, would you go bare legged, nude tights, black tights or fishnets?

Black cosy tights

3: if your skin feels all itchy and tight when you wake up, what product would you be looking for?

Hemp oil at night and a rich moisturiser for day

4: what top (casual) would you wear with wide leg black trousers and trainers?

Tight tucked in one

5: if you’re getting too old/dry skinned for Double Wear, what have you replaced it with?

Charlotte Tilbury

6: if you wanted a casual black midi skirt or a leopard print midi skirt where might you look?

Amazon

SocksAndTheCity · 19/02/2023 15:46

I can't help with polo necks or midi skirts, but for 3: I'd reach for cleansing balm followed by hyaluronic acid and then rosehip oil and for 4: I wore wide black trousers the other day with this tshirt www.selfridges.com/GB/en/cat/comme-des-garcons-play-big-red-heart-cotton-jersey-t-shirt_143-2000022-P1T025/#colour=WHITE because it always cheers me up 😊

KatRee · 19/02/2023 09:38

  1. Lancôme Teint Idole

It's been discontinued but some sellers still have some shades in stock - I recommend you stock up if you're a fan! @KatRee

TheDead · 19/02/2023 15:51

Great questions!

  1. I do wear lots of black (& bottle green & burgundy) cashmere polo necks in winter. This spring I'm moving onto fine merino knits. Or blouses with a blazer for work. Last year i bought a whistles black corduroy boyfriend style blazer on a whim & it's turned out to be very useful 👌
I like shirts / blouses a lot & miss them in the winter when it's too cold for them
  1. I would wear tights, never ever flesh coloured ones. I have a mild phobia of them & they give me the heebiegeebies. If its a coloured midi skirt & dark trainers I'd wear black or dark grey or plum / burgundy tights depending on the colours in the skirt.
  1. I'd try some calming cream like aveeno for a day or two to let my skin calm down & then reintroduce my usual creams to see if one of them was the culprit
  1. I wear lots of wide legged trousers & I like to wear beautiful blouses or shits tucked in. Sezane is great to look at for inspiration as they do lots of wide legged trousers so always interesting styling with them. Similarly ME+EM - good for ideas of how to wear even if you're using your own clothes.

I have a couple of shirts from sezane I bought last year- a denim one with a deep ruffle on the shoulders & a navy silk chloe & they look great with wide legged trousers
I'm contemplating a sleevless tank this year to wear over shirts in early spring.

I'm also eyeing up a couple of lovely bomber jackets in whistles

  1. I swaped from double wear a year or two ago & am currently wearing bobbi brown but contemplating dior or nars when this one needs to be replaced
  1. I would look in whistles or ME+EM for a black midi skirt & stalk it till I got it in a sale.
TheDead · 19/02/2023 15:53

Shirts NOT shits 😂

Stoechas · 19/02/2023 16:02

For your legs ultrabase cream or any of the other options from the light or creamy sections from the emollient ladder.
Every pharmacy in the country will sell something similar in a 500g pump vat.
Apply to damp skin with the direction of the hair.

Dry tight skin sorted in a sadly unspectacularly dull and cheap fashion (although the emollient ladder is kind of sexy (FIRE WARNING!) if you are into nerdy unguents).

I have some random questions if anybody wants to indulge me
Alittlebitfunny · 19/02/2023 16:57

I live in black polos/polo dresses. Someone once called me Steve Jobs! Last summer i bought a couple of these t-shirts in black and dark green. Nice quality, slightly high neck.

COS OVERSIZED MOCK-NECK T-SHIRT

I have some random questions if anybody wants to indulge me
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/02/2023 17:58

I like Cos for t-shirts, and have one of those cropped ones. Might try and get another.

The Estee L sample I've got is called Futurist Hydra Rescue - seems pretty nice on first poke! Grin

The dry skin is on my face, not legs - I have This Works moisturiser for legs and it's lovely; also the wonderful Aveeno.

I'm afraid my budget doesn't run to Chloe etc for blouses!

Alittlebitfunny · 19/02/2023 18:24

If you aren't set on something fitted with the wide trousers, I got a really soft satin shirt from mango. Really cheap and feels lovely. Haven't washed it yet.

coconotgrove · 19/02/2023 18:36

1: silk sleeveless black turtleneck (from Joseph and Norma Kamali, both bought on sale)

2: loathe tights, so bare legs, no matter the time of year.

3: if i wake with itchy skin, it's because I've missed an application of HRT, usually the oestrogen part

4: n/a

5: n/a - I don't use foundation due to Skin & Me/good skincare

6: have a lovely silk leopard print midi skirt from Raey (also bought on sale)

Floisme · 19/02/2023 18:47

I don't think you're a Uniqlo fan but their latest U range has some knitted T shirts although they're viscose/polyester, no black but a dark grey.

When my face feels dry, which is most of the time, I switch between almond, wheatgerm and avocado oil.

EllaPaella · 19/02/2023 18:59

My spring alternative to black polo neck top Top
Can't help with trainers and skirt as I've never worn the two together.
Itchy dry skin in the morning I use a rose facial oil by Lacura (Aldi) which is cheap but lovely and gives a lovely glow to my skin.
I wear wide leg black trousers and trainers a lot and usually with a fine knitted jumper or a sweatshirt of some variety. Maybe a denim or checked shirt.
Can't imagine ever giving up ELDW!
I have a leopard print midi that I love - actually got it from Amazon.

Vitriolinsanity · 19/02/2023 19:22

White or black t shirt - All Saints
I wouldn't, I'd wear the white trainers with cigarette pants
Olay moisturiser
White or black t shirt, unless I was 22 again and then a body
Clinique
M&S

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/02/2023 19:28

Thanks for these.

The trainers aren't white - they're black with white sole and white detailing.

I looked in M&S today - very few skirts and the only leopard print one was all flouncy and not very nice.

Those t-shirts look quite nice @Floisme but you're right that I'm not usually a fan of Uniqlo. I'll have a look in store this week.

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie £15 pull on. If you're tall it's short, if you're not it's knee length. Add black opaque, merino round neck and leather jacket et voila

mewkins · 19/02/2023 19:53
  1. Either a fairly loose fit breton (tucked in and with a belt) or a sort of wide neck straight cut black tshirt. With a jumper or crew neck fitted cardigan for if it gets cold.

2.nude

  1. Weleda skin food
  1. Again something stripey or else a grey tshirt. Or a fine merino knit (fitted) or a Fred Perry - or similar- top for a nod to northern sound kind of style.
  1. I'm looking at nars tinted moisturizer. Have yet to try.
  1. I'd love to know. I want a fitted black denim one ideally. With some stretch.

Ps. I've been on here for years and always enjoy your list of questions 😀

mewkins · 19/02/2023 19:56

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/02/2023 09:39

With regards to number one: any ideas where I might find a black cotton Breton-esque top with thin white stripes?

Arket or uniqlo. Kin at JL had some nice thick ones when I was there at the weekend.

MyBloodyMaryneedsmoreTabasco · 19/02/2023 20:13
  1. I wear thin black round neck jumpers, although my go to for these was always DP and I need to feel them in a shop, so am struggling to find replacements online anywhere. I like them v thin as I get itchy in lots of tops.
  2. My trainers of choice are converse high tops and I wear black opaques or fishnets with a skirt.
  3. Randomly, a really good rub after the shower with a rough towel and currently Superdrug vit E night cream used as a day cream.
  4. I like a slash neck top or batwing slouchy type with a waistband (if you know what I mean).
  5. Don't use foundation so can't comment.
  6. Also struggling to find new ones. Got a couple still from when DP did them (have a grey and black striped one I love and has lasted brilliantly) plus H&M sometimes ok. Had one from Whistles I liked but the waistband went cacky.

Nothing in Arket - annoying because I have a perfect blue/white one from there, but they never seem to have black.
