Cabin bag

Family situation and I need to travel to Europe via easyJet on a twice monthly basis and stay for a few days.
I’m looking for a light cabin handbag that can fit an outfit and some bits while also being light in itself.
Fairly Affordable so I don’t worry too much about damaging it while I squeeze it under the seat.
I had a Polene Cyme but shape was a bit awkward and heavy once filled as it’s leather.
I was looking at the Pliage but I’d like long handles for sling over shoulder, no backpacks or fjellraven or wheelies.
My style is grown up goth in a sense, Allsaints mostly, uniqlo everyday and some Rick Owens. I’m 47.

Do you mean to wear cross body?

pliage does some versions with shoulder straps.

MrsOrange · 18/02/2023 07:10

I'd go for a waxed canvas one or subs material rather than leather to loose the weight but still be robust

www.theoutnet.com/shop/product/smythson/totes/totes/paneled-printed-woven-tote/1647597283025540

These were great but all bar two designs sold out so perhaps shutting down www.mischadesigns.com/collections/canvas-totes

www.stateofescape.com/collections/totes I've been eyeing these up for a while, Selfridges sells them

But my problem with all of these is no zip at the top which is crappy for travel

So maybe wandererstravelco.co/collections/totes/products/le-parisien-tote. Leather but they can be knocked about a bit quite happily and lightweight

If not I'd look at TUMI totes ideal for travel but not too luggage like

Henrysmycat · 18/02/2023 07:10

The pliage bags big enough for traveling have short handles and not my colours at all.
Unless, they have others and can’t find them. Their website is not the best for filtering

The 48 hour tote from arket?

NCagainandagainand · 18/02/2023 07:43

The kind of 'handbag' bags you're talking about don't fit much due to their shape (I have to go to 'carry your overnight bag all the next day' work things so have tried a few!). For two nights, you might be better with a bag specifically designed for easyjet under seat. There are a few eg nice rucksacks that fit the bill and due to their shape will fit more in.

NCagainandagainand · 18/02/2023 07:47

Sorry, just spotted no backpacks. But I'd still recommend a rectangle shape bag to fit enough in.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 18/02/2023 11:52

I have this Le Pliage which has longer shoulder straps.

But too small I would think. Surely for a trip you would want the largest you can possibly get away with no?

NeedWineNow · 18/02/2023 12:13

I looked at lots of bags when I was going on a short European break a few years ago and was going hand luggage only. Like you I wanted something relatively lightweight that I could along over my shoulder.

I ended up with the Kipling ART tote. I know they are not everyone's cup of tea but lose the monkey and you've got a good lightweight bag that holds a lot without getting too heavy. Couple of pockets on the outside - one that forms a trolley sleeve if needed. It's been squashed under seats, thrown in overhead lockers, chucked in the back of the car and has held up really well. It's a bag you don't need to be precious with. I also like the fact that you can zip the sides up so that it forms a triangular shape and use it as a tote bag when out and about.

My friend came round to borrow a travel bag for her recent flight to Australia and out of all the bags I have she zoomed in straight away on the Kipling. Pleased to report that she has messaged me to say it was perfect for her needs.

I've got it in a metallic pewter colour, but I believe you can get it in other colours including black.

Yes but while OP may well discount it due to size (I wouldn't personally), she mentioned she was looking at the Le Plage but wanted longer straps which this one has.

I bought one for the plane to Florida. Handy that when you do go with a suitcase it fits over the handles. Loads of compartments and a clear bag for toiletries. Also comes with a little bag that can be used as a clutch little handbag

I have used this (the Mia Tui Jennie) on a number of 3 day work trips & it's been great. It has a cross body strap as well as long carry handles too.

Haggisfish3 · 18/02/2023 13:21

Ooo those bags look fab!

I would look for something that had the strap on the back that will slip over your roller suitcase handle, and a front pocket for phone/travel documents. I have one by Dakine that I love and have had for years, but they don't make that style any more.

this bag comes close:

Sorry just seen you are with easyjet , they do a max size for them too www.amazon.co.uk/Cabin-Max-Travel-Luggage-Backpack/dp/B072KKHPGX?th=1

Henrysmycat · 19/02/2023 08:15

Thank you all so much. Some excellent ideas. I’ll have a dig as I didn’t know some of the brands suggested.

TheBirdintheCave · 19/02/2023 08:22

Agreed. Cabin Max are amazing and also very durable. We've had our regular sized Metz bags since 2017 and they still look great.

Fedupwitheveryone · 19/02/2023 18:17

OP I have one of these - very light, lots of internal pockets, has a longer strap to use over shoulder - can be crossbody if needed and fits over suitcase handle so useful for longer trips too.

www.antler.co.uk/products/chelsea-overnight-bag-slate

There's a slighter larger weekender version too.

Vitriolinsanity · 19/02/2023 19:37

I have the long handled Pilage too, then doubles as my pool bag.

stealthbanana · 19/02/2023 20:12

The arket 48hr tote is great, muji also do a similar looking one - v simple and comfy

random but sweaty Betty gym bags have always been great for travelling, they usually have loads of whizzy pockets too

sanitygirl · 19/02/2023 21:01

This is v lightweight, strong and fits loads. Works v well if you also use packing cubes for your clothes
