My 13 year old Babyliss ones are giving up the ghost - I'm gutted!

What should I buy as replacement? I won't say money no object but I can afford to spend money on something that will last. Are ghd's still considered good?

Yeah I'd go for GHD's 🙂

SimonRileysGhost · 18/02/2023 00:10

Mine are Remmington. Got them for £25 from Boots one Christmas. Perfectly straighten my very naturally curly hair.

PussyGaPaw · 18/02/2023 00:26

I treated myself to some GHDs recently after I decided that my old Remingtons were dying. I was so disappointed that I sent them back - they didn't feel hot enough and the plates seemed almost scratchy. I'm still using my old Remingtons and keeping my ear to the ground about other potential replacements.

DarkDarkNight · 18/02/2023 00:53

I bought some GHD max recently and am really happy with them. I had Cloud 9 ones before and was never too happy with them. I’ve always had GHD previously and couldn’t wait to go back.

I did like the variable temperature of the Cloud 9 but just prefer GHD overall, and the Max plates are so much quicker.

VirtualRealitee · 18/02/2023 00:55

Oooh blatantly place marking because I'm still using 13 year old GHDs and thinking about replacing.

Grumpsy · 18/02/2023 00:59

I’ve just replaced my old ghds when they died with a new set, never found any other straighteners as good.

for reference my old pair were about 18 years old before they died. I’d had them since I was a teenager

hauntedvagina · 18/02/2023 01:02

Cloud 9's, purely for variable temperature control.

My GHDs are 14 years old, still going strong!

SunsetStrip · 18/02/2023 01:35

Cloud 9 by a country mile over modern GHD.

Tailfeather · 18/02/2023 03:13

Cloud 9 here too!

YellowMonday · 18/02/2023 04:53

Be aware there's a known issue currently with GHDs. My new one only lasted 10 months until red light of death.

Is covered to be replaced as happened within 12 months of purchase, but it's an annoying and long process to get my replacement GHD max.

Fridaysgirl17 · 18/02/2023 06:17

I have the Remington shine therapy ones & they are great,I got the straighteners & hairdryer in a set for Christmas about 2 years ago off my dad,& honestly they are much better than my GHD's were. Very quick & have heat control which I like

Stormystar · 18/02/2023 08:07

I have wide iron cloud9, really rate them. Had ghds before, also great, lasted about 8 years.

Elderflower2016 · 18/02/2023 08:15

Just replaced old ghd with Remington shine and they are amazing and very good value!

SunsetStrip · 18/02/2023 10:44

The bloke who founded GHD sold the company and set up cloud9, which is why the quality of GHD has gone down and why Cloud9 match the quality of old GHD.

nottoday300 · 18/02/2023 12:22

Hi got cloud 9s for Xmas no good for my hair where can I sell them ? The only slight issue is there personalised!

CosyCoffee · 18/02/2023 12:25

I love my Cloud Nine Touch straighteners that I had for Christmas. I've never tried GHDs but they're a million times better than any other straighteners I've owned.

tinselvestsparklepants · 18/02/2023 13:53

I bought refurbished ones. No probs at all and means a good brand for far less money. Worth a google?

userxx · 18/02/2023 13:59

I bought wide plate Toni & Guy ones, you can control the heat.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 18/02/2023 19:21

I had cloud 9's for Xmas after years of ghd and I love them. I like how you can have different temperatures so if I'm not too bothered about it being very straight I can turn it down.

SuperfastJellyfish · 18/02/2023 19:49

Cloud nines without a shadow of a doubt. First time I've splashed out more for straighteners and they are so worth it.

Tailfeather · 19/02/2023 14:14

Has anyone tried the new GHDs that you use on wet hair? I'm really tempted...

MsRinky · 20/02/2023 10:22

I got the ghd duet and really love it. My hair is pretty straight anyway, but the increasing number of greys are a different texture and so I was getting progressively more frizz. I don't even normally use the shine shot (actual straightener) setting, dry my hair with it and it is super straight, super-shiny and soft and lasts three days.

Fluffbutt · 21/02/2023 11:57

I’ve also got the new GHD Duet which can straighten from wet. I have frizzy bleach-damaged wavy hair. The drying setting is usually enough to smooth it out all straight and smooth. And allegedly gives no heat damage (which is why I bought it). I do use the straightener setting too but only minimally, for touch ups. For me, it was worth every penny.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 21/02/2023 12:01

My 20 year old GHDs finally gave up the ghost and I replaced them with Cloud 9 One Touch. GHDs quality levels have dropped in recent years I believe.
