Nails with two different colours

Do you paint your nails all the same colour or do you use two different colours?

If you use different, how many and which fingernails do you tend to use the different colour on?

Do the colours have to go / match?

Hi op I often do two different colours, I do ring and index finger one colour and the other three the other colour and I always make sure the colours match/go together.

I hope that makes sense 🤣

The possibilities are endless when painting your nails. Sometimes I do both hands the same colour. Sometimes 2 colours alternating on each fingers. Sometimes 3 colours alternating. Sometimes all nails one colour except the ring fingers which get painted a different colour. Sometimes 5 colours (each hand would match i.e. both thumbs pink). Sometimes one hand one colour and the other hand another e.g. orange on one, yellow on the other.

I change mine all the time but if I’m doing 2 different colours - or a design on some nails - I’ll usually do the different colour / design on ring & thumb.

Those in the know have a little extra knowledge here. A different colour on left hand ring finger may indicate lesbian. Both ring fingers a different colour may indicate bi.

Of course, this is not the case every time, as l said it’s those in the know. My ring fingers are proudly a different colour 🌈 .

Ah who knew! My ring fingers are frequently different colours just for the aesthetic 💅

Last time I got my nails done I did the thumb and ring fingers a different colour. I wish I hadn't done the thumb as I didn't like it.

Never heard it being associated with sexuality, so maybe those "in the know" should let everyone else know?

Too much faff for me.

I was going to paint my nails a colour yesterday but was really bothered by my ridges so just put the ridge filler on. Boring but ah well!

First time I’ve heard this and I’m a nail tech 🤔

I have my nails done, usually have thumb and ring finger on each hand a different colour/pattern.

@Ellewoods20 - I think you will find a different response in lesbian friendly bars and clubs, particularly in the likes of Brighton and Soho.

@StarlightLady as a dyke with a decade long acrylic nail habit and spending a lot of time in gay quarters across the country , I have never seen or heard this. It used to be the thing’ that you could spot the sapphist by the short plain nails, now the trend is for nail extensions on all nails except the index and middle finger on your dominant hand. Not that I follow the trend but it seems pretty common from what I see out and about.

And I have just learned a new word! Sapphist - everyday is a school day!
