Serum recommendations

Hi
I’ve used The Ordinary Buffet serum for years but it seems to have been discontinued. I’ve checked on the website but the only other one remotely similar is the Buffet with Copper peptides which is much more expensive and I’ve tried it before and don’t think it’s worth the money.
can anyone recommend a good serum to use prior to hylaronic acid?
Thanks

What particular skin issues are you looking to address?

tommyspud · 16/02/2023 15:36

Just general anti aging

If you want anti aging go for tretinoin, it's the gold standard of anti-aging. You can get a. Prescription online from dermatica.uk, a bottle lasts around 6-7 weeks

LadyOfTheCanyon · 16/02/2023 16:10

Yep don't fanny around with anything else. As long as you can tolerate it, Tret is the only thing that will give proven results.

Evening:
Tret ( I use Dermatica, lots of people like Skin and Me. It has added ingredients like niacinamide/hydroquinone/azaleic acid to address specific skin concerns)
Leave for 20 minutes to penetrate
Whatever moisturiser you need for your skin.
Sometimes an oil over the top.

Morning:
Cleanse,
Vitamin C serum
Moisturiser.
SPF

Honestly, unless you have very tricky skin this kind of routine is all most people need.

I use the tret with skin + me in the evening probably 4-5 times per week, I’m not sure I need it every night so I just moisturise with a night cream on the other evenings.

In the morning I’ve always done serum, hylauronic acid for exfoliation then moisturiser with an SPF. If I’m using the tret could I just do without the morning routine then?

They’ve renamed the Buffet - it’s now called something like multi peptide (def something with peptides) apparently it’s the same

KittyMcKitty · 16/02/2023 20:12

@tommyspud this is it - it says it was formerly called Buffet (there was some marketing email about it a little while ago)

Unless I've misunderstood you - hyaluronic acid doesn't exfoliate- you need Glycolic for that ( ideally in the evening part of your routine on non Tret days.

In the morning you should ideally cleanse to take off the remnants of last nights routine, and apply either a moisturiser/ spf or a suitable serum, then moisturiser.

tommyspud · 16/02/2023 21:38

Thanks @KittyMcKitty I never read the marketing stuff so I’d missed that! The product has definitely jumped in price though!

@LadyOfTheCanyon yes I do use the glycolic on non tret days. The morning routine and products were recommended by The Ordinary when I first started using them years ago. Prior to using tret I used to use their own retinol. I’m wondering whether to stop the serum and hylauronic acid altogether in the mornings now.

For me it's always been EL advanced night repair. I've tried many over the years but I keep going back to ANR.
