Husband's Hair Colour

My husband has quite long hair and is now getting fairly grey and we both agree that it would look great if he started colouring it. My husband would like to do Balayage, but I cautioned him about the cost to maintain it. How much do people spend on Balayage and how often does it need re-doing?

Isn’t your husband old enough to be goggling this himself ? Or asking his friends or his hairdresser ?

I think men always look ridiculous when they dye their hair . It’s always obvious and looks a bit desperate.

Once it’s coloured you’ll just need to colour the roots where the grey grows through so you’d only need a root tint so it will be cheaper. Balayage is usually just for the mid to ends mainly, so you’d need an colour for the roots. What colour do you want it to be?

I spend approx £100 3 times a year for balayage, cut and blow I can get away with just a root touch up once a year which is £50…….so £350 a year.
Leeds prices

Colour will be medium brown with caramel balayage

How long does Balayage take in the Salon? Won't he need a root touch up every 4 to 6 weeks?

Surely it's the badly done dye that's obvious! If it was well done you might never know. Why is it socially acceptable for women to dye their grey( almost expected) and ridiculous for men to do so. Hair is hair. I am a woman with grey hair who grew out the dye during covid for full disclosure.

I tried this to blend/mask the grey but you need to be very committed to getting the roots done. Mine needed it every 4 to 5 weeks, and drove me mad so I've ended up going grey on the top and just having lowlights to blend a bit of my natural colour through - I can have this done once or twice a year instead.

I think that mens hair colour can look quite attractive and much better than grey, which is why I have encouraged my husband to go for colouring. I estimate that it will cost about £700 a year, but we are prepared to pay this amount. I hope that my husband does not mind 2 hour salon visits having it done though!

@Dianehb

The initial balayage and colour application will be a fairly long appointment but after that it's just touching up roots every 4-6 weeks which can be done fairly quickly.

Balayage normally around three times a year

Often once the nicer weather is here it also lifts naturally so keeps it looking natural
