Coat buttons!

I have a nice, long, fitted wool coat, in black. It’s starting to need a revamp, and I’d like to update the buttons. It’s 3 pairs at the front waist part and two buttons on the waist at the back.
I'm unsure of what to choose. Currently black plastic, inconspicuous but bland. Any suggestions? I’m debating silver, matt finish or maybe leather covered. Thanks!

Ooh I think that you could do a couple of things.

  1. If you have a John Lewis near you take a look in the haberdashery isle and look at all the lovely buttons. Taking a current button of your coat along for sizing to make sure they fit the button holes.
  2. Look at coats that are like yours and see what buttons stand out and try and find something similar.

Depends on the style of the coat.

What about vintage buttons? You can get them on eBay and there's loads of choice.

Thanks for the ideas. I got some dull silver patterned metal to replace the black plastic. Think I like it! If not I can change them again.
