Ok I want to wear this

onehundredstars.co.uk/collections/one-hundred-stars-gowns/products/acer_red_gown

To a upcoming wedding. Because I think its lovely and would wear again. But what with?
I suit a-line dresses, I'm very happy in a trouser suit, dont like sleeves. I'm 5'6 and size 16.
Do I go a matching colour, opposite colour, clashing print?

Up to £100 for the dress/trouser suit. And the wedding is late April.

That is so lovely, something fairly plan a stream line underneath would look good...

NatashaDancing · 14/02/2023 00:27

It's very beautiful. I wouldn't wear the belt, even loose and unbelted. I agree it needs to be streamlined and monochrome and whatever it is needs to be longer than the robe.

How are you with heels? I think it needs high heels and elegant, not block.

NatashaDancing · 14/02/2023 00:35

thefoldlondon.com/product/clever-crepe-slim-leg-elasticated-trousers-black/

Someone will no doubt say you can't wear black to a wedding but to make it formal enough I can't think of what else would work. Either of these trousers with the same or similar tops.

jitteryquick · 14/02/2023 01:44

I love One Hundred Stars and I love the fabric of that garment but I think it looks too much like a house coat / dressing gown.

MrsOrange · 14/02/2023 02:30

I agree - take the belt off so it will look more overcoat than dressing gown, then I'd go black and simple underneath, trousers as opposed to a skirt. If you look on the website most of them are styled as dressing gowns, but this one isn't onehundredstars.co.uk/collections/one-hundred-stars-gowns/products/one-hundred-stars-giant-willow-gown. Somehow it works with jeans.

Quick look at Pinterest there's a lot of kimono style over black dresses and more formal clothes, I'd start there for inspiration.

It is a thing of beauty.

MrsOrange · 14/02/2023 02:35

Actually same pattern but a throw over as opposed to gown - possibly work better? onehundredstars.co.uk/collections/throwovers/products/acer_red_throwover

CryInToYourCornflakesNicola · 14/02/2023 08:38

Thanks for the replies.
Yes I can wear heels, I'd almost prefer trousers to a dress, I live in jeans, I just thought for a wedding, a dress would be better. I dont know this is only my third wedding ever.
I love the throw and it's a maybe, I dont see that I'll use it much after, like I will the gown.
Thanks for the help, If I wear black trousers, what top?

I was hoping for a brilliant contrasting print to be mentioned, but seems not.

Black top from same range as trousers. Because of Alice has bustiers and waistcoats which match their trousers. The Fold has a top which match theirs.

Whataretheodds · 14/02/2023 11:47

Royal blue/cobalt jumpsuit (picking out the trees in the print) or shell/bustier top and trousers.

If you take the belt off you'll just have empty loops, so i think you have to embrace the robey nature of the thing and wear a turban or headband.
Or wear the throw

Englishash · 14/02/2023 11:51

Isn't that a dressing gown ?

TheDead · 14/02/2023 12:00

I think you could wear navy trouser and top in the style already posted and simple elegant heels .
Or a very slim line, fitted, calf length navy dress
It's a beautiful kimono!
I have a real soft spot for a beautiful kimono..

HaggisBurger · 14/02/2023 12:02

Sorry. I love these but they are dressing gowns and if I saw someone in one at a wedding I’d think it utterly bizarre.

ApolloandDaphne · 14/02/2023 12:04

That's a dressing gown/robe. I bought one for my DD in a different pattern for her Christmas.

HaggisBurger · 14/02/2023 12:04

I know the company style them as outerwear but I have two and know I’d look like I had my dresssing gown on if I wore it over a trouser suit

crispinglovershighkick · 14/02/2023 12:13

OP have you seen the Rachel dresses and tops? onehundredstars.co.uk/search?q=rachel+&type=product%2carticle%2cpage%2ccollection

They look an odd shape but they're SO comfortable and flattering and a good foil for accessories. Also easy to wear layers under if you need to be warm.

I love OHS but a lot of the open gown styles are quite floaty and look like lingerie, the fabric is translucent so the colours end up looking a bit faded, you can see seams and tags etc.

Floofsquidge · 14/02/2023 12:54

Have a look at Nancy and Mac's shrugs. Gorgeous fabrics and materials, I wore one to a wedding to get a similar look you're going for and had loads of compliments on it.

www.nancymac.co.uk/collections/shrugs

Flyinggeesei234 · 14/02/2023 14:15

I wouldn’t mainly because One Hundred Stars are so popular for lounge wear that there’s a high chance others at the wedding will have the robe as a dressing gown. Loads of nightwear threads on MN have OHS recommendations - just like on every wedding thread someone says Nancy Mac.

SunshineAndFizz · 14/02/2023 14:19

It's really beautiful but I'm with pps - looks like a dressing gown sorry, especially with the belt. I think this isn't quite right for a wedding.

maddy68 · 14/02/2023 14:24

Sorry I think it looks like a dressing gown. Not sure it's dressy enough for a wedding. But would look great over PJs ;)

asparalite · 14/02/2023 14:48

As an earlier poster said Nancy Mac have a gorgeous range of shrugs but many of their clothes are also in really nice fabrics, I'm sure if you looked you might see something you like, I love One Hundred Stars too, but my dressing gown is simply that, sorry!

NeedNwJeans · 14/02/2023 14:55

These are described as "These kimono style gowns are perfect as a luxurious house coat or for layering as a chic accessory to your favourite outfit." Unless you are very chic person, it will look like a house coat...

RaininginDarling · 14/02/2023 15:53

It's a great colour but agree with other posters - it is borderline dressing gown. I'm a bride wearing Nancy Mac including the lace duster then later, a shrug. I've seen a few bridal parties wearing NM shrugs as part of their look. Not sure how common that is, though as clearly I'm seeing their social media. They're lovely!

CryInToYourCornflakesNicola · 14/02/2023 16:58

I guess it's a dressing gown is the consensus. Ok I'll rethink.

Looked at Nancy Mac and there are quite a few dresses I like a lot. Some in the sale which is good because I'm not normally a dress wearer. Are they true to size or do I have to look at each and every dress to find its true size.

Still going to buy the OHS gown cos its lovely, just wont wear it to a wedding.
