Has anyone taken Collagen supplements?

Just ordered some from Boots. Quite a high dose (20g per day). I've opted for Bovine collagen, as it appears to have more benefits than Marine collagen.

Wondering if anyone has tried this, and if so, were you pleased with the results?

Yes I am taking it, bovine, primarily to give muscles and tendons help after seeing Davina has endorsed its use for this, not noticed anything there however my nails are amazing and joints feel a little more free.

Have been taking for a couple of months. I think my skin feels less dry and isn’t wrinkling at the rate of knots it was before.

BeachBlondey · 13/02/2023 14:04

I've ordered the bovine one also, as I am quite achey! How many grams per day do you take? The one I've ordered is 20g daily. It's the one Jennifer Anniston uses (apparently!)

Evidence suggests that marine collagen is more effective than bovine collagen.

I read on a website that the Bovine one was better at relieving joint pain. The seller sold both types as well. I guess I'll switch though, if I don't feel the Bovine one does any good.

I take 2 scoops which the guidance says is 20g although I've not measured it. I take it in 2 goes though as I wasn't keen on how frothy 2 scoops made my tea.

I am 64. I take collagen supplements, either animal or fish-based. I do notice that my skin is really silky.
Does not matter what kind of collagen it is.

There is a really good podcast on Sliced Bread on Collagen supplements. Worth a listen.

annlee3817 · 13/02/2023 22:07

I've been taking collagen powder in my coffee for a couple of years ago now, noticed it helped with running recovery along with doing strength stuff and really noticed the difference in my skin and hair. Back on it post birth and hoping it will help with the post partum hair loss :)

MavisMcMinty · 14/02/2023 13:21

I see Elemis - who I love - have started doing collagen supplements, 2 bottles (2 months-worth) for £100 on QVC, reduced from £150, but way out of my reach!

Are there any good, cheap collagen supplements this thread can recommend?

Picklewicklepickle · 14/02/2023 13:37

I was having collagen coffee (bovine) and wasn’t sure if it was really doing anything but every time I’ve stopped I have noticed knee/hip pain. I’m taking marine collagen now but the pain hasn’t gone after a couple of weeks so I’m going to go back to it.

newlove22 · 14/02/2023 13:46

Yes I take marine collagen sachets. Has made a huge difference to my skin and hair.

CosyCoffee · 14/02/2023 13:48

I'm really interested to know if collagen supplements would have an effect on my deeply ridged fingernails?

CinnamonCoffee · 14/02/2023 13:55

I was actually reading about this and from what I read it doesn't work as when collagen is lost it can't be replaced which makes sense. Drinking collagen orally is going in to your stomach and isn't going to be absorbed. I was very close to buying Vida glow at the weekend but decided against it.

I listened to the ‘Best Thing Since Sliced Bread’ episode usherbobble. The verdict by the scientists was that it was marketing bullshit for the reasons CinammonCoffee gives.

I ordered from Boots chemist the Vitamin Proteins brand. It's £38 for 2 weeks worth, which still seems expensive, BUT, I have found out that you can get it a bit cheaper from them directly.

I felt that if I ordered from Boots or Holland and Barratt, that I could be sure the products were legit. What's the strength of the Elemis one? Lots of them are low dosage, whereas the VP one is 20g per day. It's the one that Jennifer Anniston takes (which I didn't know when I ordered it).

Mine had 85000 five star reviews on Amazon. I've started today and will update the thread after a few weeks!

Actually, I listened to that episode and that is not what the scientist said at all! 🤔

Really interested in your results to follow, thanks for the thread. I can't afford any supplements at the moment but would love to try both when I'm able to. X

MavisMcMinty · 14/02/2023 14:27

Thanks @BeachBlondey - same price as the Elemis one then! It’s my nails that seem untreatable, although I’ve just started NailsInc Damaged Nail Recovery treatment (like OPI’s Nail Envy, I guess), but it sounds from above like the deep ridges are forever whatever I do?
