Dr Martens slightly too big? Should I keep?

I've bought some DrM 2976 Chelsea platform boots and they feel slightly too big. But I think a size down would be slightly too small... I'm usually an 8 and I've bought an 8. Tried them on with thin socks and I'm at home and my feet are probably the smallest they'll be (they swell in the day and when they get hotter etc). Better to have slightly too big and pad out with insoles and socks, or...? Are they likely to be easier to wear in? Any experience welcome!!

Dr martins sells an insole that makes it half a size smaller

I would definitely keep them. In my experience, DMs usually come up large - my feet measure 6.5 but I wear 6 in Docs. You can add an insole if you need one, and two pairs of socks may be necessary for the wearing in phase anyway.

Thick insole will fix it.

I didn't know that Jelly.
I'm a 5 1/2 and I ended buying a 5 ( different style to OP) as the 6 was too big but the 5 is just that little bit too small. Ok if I'm wearing opaque tights but tight with socks.

Interesting thank you! They have three types I can see - comfort, cork and warm wear... What would you go for?

Oh, comfort not available on their website

Return them. They'll stretch.

Doc marten socks are quite thick and look nice poking out of the top. I ended up buying fur lined to avoid this problem.

Particularprick · 12/02/2023 16:15

I've ordered a size 7 so I can compare and contrast as well as the fur lined insoles in both sizes

I would return as I have also had this problem. I am a 5.5 and the size 6 is just a little too big. I kept a pair in the 6 and bought the dr marten insole and it felt immediately good but when walking around they still felt too big and rubbed a lot due to too much movement. They also got a bit bigger and stretched a little.

I bought a 5 and although they initially felt a bit small they broke in so much better and feel perfect once worn a little.

It's good to know that the unisex range is different fitting and larger to the ladies sizing though.
