I have £80 via the Liberty beauty drop. Any really lovely perfume suggestions that Liberty sell? Can be > £80.

What sort of perfumes have you loved before? Can you go in store to test them? And how much more do you feel comfortable spending? I think the perfume selection in Liberty is fantastic, but all the ones I'm thinking of are so different - Byredo 1996, Byredo Sundazed, Le Labo Tonka, Le Labo Rose 31, Frederick Malle Portrait of a Lady, Frederic Malle Superstition are all glorious in their own ways in my opinion... require another £100+ spend though ( or 5 months wait in credits!) If you want something now and don't want to spend a huge chunk more the Diptyque 50ml EDT's are £85. I don't know loads in that range but think Philosykos is lovely and quite subtle too.

Oh you lucky thing!
Tell us what you usually like and we'll make some suggestions to try and sniff if you're nearby. Do you like sweet, floral, spicy? What perfumes have you liked (and hated) in the past?
(Have a look also at the thread about perfume started yesterday, some lovely descriptions and suggestions on there)

Thanks for the replies. I like rose-based perfumes generally. I tried the guidance on the Liberty website and it suggested Portrait of a Lady so I was considering that but I found it in John Lewis the other day and wasn’t particularly impressed. Diptyque rose perfumes are nice but I don’t think any nicer that the one I have from L’Occitane or the Paul Smith one. I used to love Stella. I really don’t like the Jean Paul Gaultier one with the “body” bottle - whatever the primary scent is there, it makes me want to make a sharp exit (not sure if is still available but is an example of the type of perfume I really don’t like).

The JPG original is pretty heavy on the vanilla.
I agree with you about most rose perfumes generally not being any better than the cheaper ones. I like the L'Occitane ones, and I think you can't beat good old YSL Paris for a huge blowsy, sexy rose.
Hippy Rose by Heeley has a big dollop of hairy biker spice in it.
I don't mind POAL but it doesn't make my heart sing.

Housewife2010 · 11/02/2023 16:28

I prefer Malle's Lipstick Rose to POAL, bit I wouldn't buy a full size bottle of it without testing it. I like the 10ml Malle's, but I have lots of scents and vary them a lot. Liberty tend to do scent edits twice a year which are always good value.

Whoatemysocks · 11/02/2023 20:36

That’s interesting. I looked at the Malle website and they sell 3 testers for £15, the cost of which can be deducted from a full sized bottle if subsequently purchased. Diptyque provide a tester with theirs so if you don’t like the tester the full size can be sent back unopened. This means I don’t want to buy from Liberty unless I know exactly what I want, otherwise it looks like I’d be better buying direct.

As an alternative (because there's very few £80 fragrance options in Liberty!!) I bought the DS and Durga 'I Don't Know What' roller perfume oil for £70 last week with my vouchers. It's a fragrance enhancer so you put it with other perfumes to subtly lift and give depth to pother fragrances although it can be worn on its own.

Canyoudigityesyoucan · 11/02/2023 20:47

Portrait of a Lady is my dream fragrance, love it but you really need to LOVE it to spend that cash on it.

I adore Rose fragrances so here’s my fave ones which will be in Liberty

Byredo- Rose of No Mans Land
Ouai- Dean St or North Bondi (£50 a bottle and really do last!)
Jo Malone- Rose Blush (new one just out which is really lovely and rose but limited edition)
Tom Ford- they have a whole new rose selection, I tried Rose D’Amalfi today which is lush (but a bit baby powdery) but Rose Prick also lush

Canyoudigityesyoucan · 11/02/2023 20:48

Also Ouai as I mentioned above will give you a a really powerful fragrance for not a huge cost. Also Phlur is a new brand I really like and they have some nice ones to, again under £80!

Zoetrope1 · 11/02/2023 21:54

Another vote for Le Labo Rose 31 given you like rose scents

SocksAndTheCity · 11/02/2023 22:28

And I'll add another vote for Ouai - lovely fragrances and amazing value for money!

I spent some of my Liberty credit on a bottle of Melrose Place, which you might like if you like peony as well as rose 😊

plumduck · 12/02/2023 05:19

Have you tried essentric molecules? If not then the discovery set of them are nice. Also diptique do a nice solid rose perfume it's in a beautiful case.

Exasperatednow · 12/02/2023 05:22

La fille au Berlin- serge lutens. Its a rose based perfume. And I agree I hated portrait of a lady and so wanted to like it.

Exasperatednow · 12/02/2023 05:23

Also I have Rose of no man's land and love that.

Cantonet · 12/02/2023 09:26

In terms of Rose suggestions - Malle Une Rose/Lipstick Rose as well as Serge Lutens la Fille de berlin are fantastic Roses. Masque Milano Love Kills is a very lovely full on Rose, but I'm not sure whether it's sold in Liberty. Other than that Papillons Tobacco Rose is definitely worth a try.
