I’ve not owned one myself but have heard enough people extolling their virtues and seen how flattering and easy to wear they are to highly doubt they’re going anywhere.

Are you bored of them yet?

I really couldn’t care less what’s in and what’s out. If I want to wear a floral midi I will, not with white trainers though. Same with skinny jeans. Why do people let themselves be dictated to? Just wear what you like.

Exactly! I have no idea what 'looks good' and I don't care. I wear what I find comfortable and what I like.

It won't bother me one iota. I've never worn the midi dress with trainers & I haven't worn skinny jeans since 2020. I'm 53.

I remember driving though our city last summer & there was some outdoor concert on & there were literally droves of women wearing midi floral dresses, white trainers, denim jackets & Cross body bags. It looked like some bizarre dress codnoe! Seriously it was a strange sight
It was like seeing all the women in identikit amish dresses!

I was in a beer garden last summer and after a bit of refreshment I stood up and shouted 'ladies, just checking yiz all got the denim jacket memo?' to whoops and enthusiasm from the DJ'ed ranks.

I love women ❤️

Somefang · 11/02/2023 13:43

I'll carry on wearing mine in summer, the best thing for sustainability when it comes to clothing which is a huge issue for the environment is to stop this nonsense around trends and stuff being in or out of fashion, who cares?

CampervanKween · 11/02/2023 13:51

Here here. I've got a wardrobe full of them. I can't wait for the weather to be warm enough to wear them again.

happyinherts · 11/02/2023 13:55

I've never worn a midi dress - I'm 5ft 1 and they don't look right. I've had to wear what suits, but that said - what is trending for summer 2023?

Why are people allowing others to tell them what to wear!?!?

PollyAmour · 11/02/2023 14:24

I will wear whatever I damn well like. I can - and will - wear skinny jeans, maxi dresses, midi dresses, heck maybe even a mini dress now and again. I may or may not accessorise with a denim jacket or a biker jacket, depending on the mood. I might wear flip flops, I could wear trainers, I could wear sandals.

Don't follow fashion too slavishly, find what suits you, what makes you feel good, and enjoy wearing what you like. Life is too short to wear clothes that are 'on trend' but totally wrong for your shape.

Ireallydohope · 11/02/2023 14:25

A floral midi dress is just something normal to wear in the summer

Just as

Skinny jeans are normal to wear in the winter with boots

It's neither in or out

It just clothing appropriate to the weather

Ireallydohope · 11/02/2023 14:27

I've been wearing midi dresses for 30 years in the summer same as wearing a mini skirt when it's boiling hot.

Obvs these days my minis come just above or on the knee

And it depends where I'm going, who with, what activity etc

Saw this today and had to laugh. I agree with her but then I'm not selling them - odd decision to remove something so popular from sale.

I really don't care what other people wear but seeing groups of women in these dresses, white trainers, denim or leather jackets and a cross body bag makes me wonder if people have any independent thoughts, it's such a uniform and really done to death. Have a bit of imagination.

Agree

SockGoddess · 11/02/2023 14:40

I love florals and often wear floral maxi dresses or skirts in summer - and always have. I don't think the long floral dress will disappear. But I do think this trend has gone a bit extreme - I don't like the ones with endless flounces and pintucks in weird brownish prints, that look like a Little House on the Prairie outfit for a 9-year-old, except they're polyester.

JL have been responsible for some of the worst ones so I can see why they're sick of it!

Luredbyapomegranate · 11/02/2023 14:46

Mercurial123 · 11/02/2023 04:45

There's nothing wrong with floral midi dresses, it's the puffy sleeves, flounces, tiers, and those awful collars that make them look too fussy.

Yeah this, it always happens when a style gets overdone.

I don’t think they’ll go away (they were always around anyways), but a few fewer flowerbeds would be good thing.

Especially the modest fashion top to toe ones, they really do make everyone look like shit.

Oldraver · 11/02/2023 15:16

I love a flowery dress cat ones even more so will not being getting rid. There would be a huge (72 dresses) gap in my wardrobe

White pumps get too dirty though , I love colourful ones

RainyDaysareCarp · 11/02/2023 17:03

I don't think there is a woman on this earth who is not improved by wearing a midi floral dress as opposed to some leggings and a t shirt of an inappropriate length especially when it is a larger lady.

It doesn’t have to be one or the other! 😂

What if you are not fat though, do you still have to wear them?

FunnyItWorkedLastTime · 11/02/2023 17:43

CrabDuckDuckCrab · 11/02/2023 10:15

I found that article really funny - firstly, because JL aren't exactly arbiters of high style, and secondly, because they seem to be massively overestimating their importance to shoppers. As if anyone's going to go 'Oh, JL haven't got what I wanted - I'll just go with this next best thing' instead of 'Never mind - I wonder what the entire internet can offer'.

Such a weird, self-sabotaging decision.

JL can have their cake and eat it. They have a handful of own brands, and can decide that they're going to move those brands (slightly) away from floral midis towards separates.

But they also stock dozens of other brands, so if the market as a whole decides to stick with that look then a search on the JL website will still give you a hundred options.

FiddleLeaf · 11/02/2023 19:32

Never, I’ll cling onto my floral midi dresses. Trousers don’t suit my body type so having copious options in my wardrobe now is a relief.

CrabDuckDuckCrab · 11/02/2023 20:43

@FunnyItWorkedLastTime

So it's basically posturing? Like, they're taking a stand without actually standing to lose much - if anything - at all?

Figures.

Riverlee · 11/02/2023 20:46

Nooo, I love a floral midi dress (and will continue to wear them). They’re so easy, and you can dress them up or down with different accessories.

GeneratedRandomly · 11/02/2023 20:46

If only they made dresses with a waist at the actual waist instead of just below the tits I would have a wardrobe full of those dresses.

No, they do have finances at stake because if their own brand sales plummet they'll take a hit. But they're not staking their entire fashion income on this stance.

I agree. Tailored in just under the boobs makes me look pregnant.

SenecaFallsRedux · 11/02/2023 21:04

I do care about how I look and I care about fashion. Several posters have said that floral midis work on any age. Not so. Florals can have a very high potential frump factor for us "women of a certain age."
