Moisturiser/Roaccutane

Hi, my ds (14) has been prescribed Roaccutane today and we were told that he needs a really good moisturiser. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a decent intensive one for him? Also a decent lip balm as well if you have any recommendations?

We are both quite nervous but his acne is really getting him down now so we need to give it a try.

Thanks!

Cetraben moisturizer and blisteze the one on the metal tube.
I have 5 round of roaccautane over the years and blisteze is essential.

It's called blistex relief cream now

When I was on roaccutane, my dermatologist suggested a colloidal based moisturiser (such as Aveeno) and Carmex for lipbalm.

Ds uses Cerave cream & Aquaphor lip balm. Plus Aveeno cream on his body for patchy eczema.

We used la Roche Posay for my daughter when she took Roaccutane. It was honestly the best decision doing it as her skin, 2 years on, is perfect.

Hello I was on this.

I used cetaphil moisturiser in a pump bottle as you can get through a lot and eucerin aquaphor (not the lip stuff the normal stuff) for my lips and also up my nostrils.

He also needs to ideally be either drinking a glass of full fat milk or yoghurt with it. And always have a bottle of water on the go. It will take a while for the dryness to kick in depending on his dose.

This is all great, thanks so much. I'll spend tomorrow having a look through the recommendations and then get to Boots.

Will give him a lecture on the water intake as well!

I used a cheap one from Aldi and a nipple cream for my lips.

DD1 is on Differin cream and Lymecycline rather than Roaccutane so not quite the same but has still struggled with dryness. The dermatologist recommended this Bioderma moisturiser. It’s been pretty good but not perfect.

If he wants a face wash the cetaphil face wash is very gentle too

Yes he will need a face wash so thank you, I’ll grab some of that tomorrow as well.

In Spain I came across the brand ISDIN. The Acniben range is designed for people using Roaccutane. I'm not, but I do suffer from very dry lips and bought the lip repair, which is brilliant. it's not available in the UK but it's easy to get online.

Another face wash recommendation: cerave hydrating cleanser (you use with water). Feels like rubbing a rich moisturiser into your face but washes clean off, doesn’t cause spots, v gentle. Good luck to your son!

I have had both accutane in the past and the very dry skin you sometimes get as an after-effect of it.

Blistex for the lips/inside the nose.

This Shea moisture lotion for the body, perhaps overnight as the scent may be slightly feminine for him for the day. It used to be sold by Amazon but looks to maybe have been discontinued/they're messing around with the size/ingredients:

Keep an eye on suicidal feelings and make sure he knows he can talk to you if they appear. My ex boyfriend suddenly became suicidal with no history of it when on accutane. He only told me afterwards which was very disturbing. It's a known possible temporary physiological effect of taking it.
