So few online at the moment but it’s my favourite season.
Post links to lovely summery frocks when you see them?

Netcam I have a different merino icebreaker dress - I wear in winter as in Southern Hemisphere.
Have you looked at “ Wool&”.. us company who do brilliant merino dresses… they are famous for the 100 Day Dress Challenge… I have the the Brooklyn and I love!

Thanks, nice to see another Icebreaker fan out there! I have a couple of black winter long sleeved Icebreaker dresses too, they are great! Interesting you mentioned that, a friend was showing me to 100 day dress challenge last week. Have you done it? I think I would get bored wearing the same thing every day. I tend to pick an outfit for a week in winter, wearing the same thing every day and just change the base layer top. By the end of the week I fancy a change. In the summer an Icebreaker tank dress can last 3 days, but I tend to alternate with T-shirt and shorts/leggings. Not sure I would want to wear it for 100 days without washing even if I could.

I think Netcam's dresses may be from Next They do really nice cotton sundresses every year in a simple shift shape and lots of different patterns and colours. But ready to be corrected!

I'd be grateful for a link to these. I have a next voucher that they sent me after a truly awful customer service experience, and haven't worked out what to spend it on.

GettingStuffed · 09/02/2023 09:03

I've bought this for MiL's funeral. It's less red than in the picture, no colour dominates. The white lace is actually cream. It's definitely a spring dress.

@Netcam - thank you for linking to the dress. I'm a huge fan of merino (have hiked lots in it) so have bought that dress, plus this one www.alpinetrek.co.uk/stoic-womens-merino180-oestersundst-dress-dress/?cnid=589dd417aedf40dfd7aec87ed505d

I've been eyeing up this. Not strictly a summer dress (long sleeves!) but pretty and floaty.

I pretty much lived in Apricot dresses for work last summer. I suspected them to be one season and gone, given the price, but they actually held up remarkably well. Looking forward to getting them out again.

Absolutely, definitely not!

Every Spring a madness takes me and I hare after some fabulous, flouncy, look-at-me frock - generally bankrupting self in process. It arrives and is perfection on the hanger. Only needs a little alteration … Throw money at alteration person. Retrieve garment. Try on. Hide thing. Pretend it doesn’t exist. Panic around the end of October at all the money wasted. Force self to put on awful mistake, under or over lovely shetland jumper and bulkiest coat. Leave house. Spend a torturous day in ridiculous garment. Come home; pack thing away for ever Winter. Don glorious Winter wardrobe. Look forward to another Spring …

Hmm

Hahaha. Me too.
I much prefer Autumn dressing .

Me too @CrkdLttrCrkdLttr

I probably won’t spend this year though as I’m sick of puffy sleeves. They do nothing for matronly tits.

I’d like a 90s style ditsy button-through summer dress with cap sleeves. Preferably empire line and flowy. Unfortunately I’ve not seen any that I like (or will fit!)

empire line

Dorothy Perkins always do empire line dresses.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 09/02/2023 09:24

Dresses don't look great on me as I'm short and tubby with big tits.

A brief look around the shops the other day was depressing- all the dresses I could see were still fucking ditsy florals- small prints do larger people absolutely no favours. I need a bold print if I'm going to wear a dress at all.

So no, I will stick with linen trousers, French tucked T-shirts and wish for death, like I do every year.

Exciting! Let us know how you get on with them. That Stoic one looks lovely too. I'd be interested in reviews and comparisons. Agree, merino is the best hiking gear. DH and I have done many hiking focused 3 week summer trips while my kids (now teens) go away with their dad. I have only taken merino, including underwear. We used to fly somewhere and travel around on the train and would generally take just a small backpack each and limit ourselves to 5kg max. I would usually pack one of those Icebreaker dresses, a couple of pairs of merino shorts, a few merino t-shirts and tanks, a really thin merino hoodie for sun protection, one pair of merino leggings and a warm merino hoodie. It's been my standard backpacking gear for years. We just washed stuff in hotel sinks and hung up to dry, but could wear merino multiple days without washing. Last year we got a tiny micro pop top caravan for our adventures and with minimal storage space our packing list has been similar, although we added some warmer stuff for cooking and eating outside in the evenings, mine being a Smartwool jacket and Smartwool thick sports leggings, so still merino.

Echobelly · 09/02/2023 10:52

I like summer dresses but probably don't have any reason to buy one this year! Sadly I think I'll have to give away a few lovely formal frocks because they don't fit me any more and my teenager is a totally different shape to me, so not going to be able to pass them on.

lindyloo57 · 09/02/2023 13:06

I don't need to buy any summer clothing this year, I have NWT on 3 dresses, shorts, sandals and a few t shirts, from Septembers sale, it's winter clothing I am short on, so I buying now from the sales a few things, summer is my favourite season, thats why my wardrobe is 70% summer wear 30% winter. I'm trying to get to 50 50.

lurchermummy · 09/02/2023 13:06

No I hate dressing for summer. Love wearing jeans, boots, jackets. Summer dressing makes me anxious!

theatrical · 09/02/2023 13:14

Yes, I'm looking forward to it. Also not having to wear a coat. I don't need to buy any thing new as I have things from last year I didn't get to wear.

I think I'm bored of autumn/winter clothing now. Though I'll be hankering for it again by the end of summer no doubt.

MissyB1 · 09/02/2023 13:41

I just find summer dressing so much easier. T shirt, cropped trousers and flip flops for every day wear, and a dress and sandals for smart wear.
Admittedly finding nice dresses is a challenge, the huge baggy sleeve thing is awful and I can’t see it doing anyone any favours!

UWhatNow · 09/02/2023 13:48

Thanks @Riverlee ! :-)

WhereAreWeNow · 09/02/2023 16:37

I'm sick of how dark my winter clothes are. I'm looking forward to getting brighter/lighter colours out again.

EvelynBeatrice · 09/02/2023 17:55

I too love summer clothes, but living in Scotland means I can usually only wear them abroad - especially dresses. It's rarely warm enough consistently for bare legs!!
Another reason to move southwards if independence looks likely ..,

Ellewoods20 · 09/02/2023 19:01

Me! Absolutely love wearing my dresses in spring and summer. I find autumn and winter clothing boring. I have at least 3 dresses on my wish list so far for this year. After wearing a few midi dresses last summer, I’ve decided I want more so I can wear them on cooler days with a cardigan too.

I shouldn’t have clicked the link! Had a browse and have bought these two frocks.

Yes! If I could afford it I’d buy this www.matchesfashion.com/products/Emporio-Sirenuse-Ottavia-waist-tie-ikat-print-cotton-voile-dress-1484903 (extra 15 off in the app)

Riverlee · 09/02/2023 20:53

@IWonderWhyIBother I like that tiger dress as well, and was very nearly tempted.

MrsCornelius · 09/02/2023 21:22

@AuntieMarys I’m 6 feet tall size 14 too! In the summer I wear dresses, as cool and comfortable. Maxis and midis suit my frame, I find.

motleymop · 09/02/2023 21:33

Ugh, absolutely not. Dresses make me uncomfortable, mentally and physically.

IndianSummer78 · 09/02/2023 22:00

I love summer dresses
